Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, looks to be his most ambitious project yet, and the first trailer suggests a truly epic and unique cinematic experience. Interestingly, while audiences anticipate this grand adventure, Disney is simultaneously gearing up for the release of Percy Jackson season 2 in 2026.

The timing is perfect. Disney is currently releasing season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and it happens to include many ideas and themes from the classic Greek story The Odyssey – just as the first trailer for a new adaptation of The Odyssey has just come out.

The initial trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has reassured viewers that he’s fully committed to a grand adaptation of Homer’s classic, including its mythical creatures and fantastical events.

The latest trailer offers a quick look at the Cyclops Polyphemus and shows Odysseus communicating with the dead, mirroring events from the classic story. It’s also been confirmed that the Olympian gods will be involved, with Zendaya portraying the goddess Athena.

As far as I can tell, Nolan’s The Odyssey is going to be a complete adaptation of the epic poem, and he’s even planning to weave in flashbacks to The Iliad and the Trojan War. Considering that, the timing of the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is pretty interesting, isn’t it?

Why Disney’s Percy Jackson Season 2 Is The Perfect Series Before Christopher Nolan’s 2026 Epic

As a big fan of both mythology and the Percy Jackson books, I’m really excited about season two! It’s based on The Sea of Monsters, and honestly, it feels a lot like watching The Odyssey reimagined for a new generation. Percy’s adventures, and the challenges he and his friends face, are clearly inspired by the story of Odysseus – you can see echoes of the original Greek epic all over the place. It’s a really clever way to bring those classic myths to life!

As a huge fan of both Greek mythology and the Percy Jackson series, I’ve always loved how much Rick Riordan pulls directly from The Odyssey. All those terrifying creatures – Circe, the Sirens, Scylla and Charybdis, even the Laestrygonians – they all come straight from Homer’s epic poem. And it’s brilliant how the show is mirroring that! In the latest episode of Percy Jackson season 2, when Percy and his friends had to choose between facing Scylla or Charybdis, it was a clear nod to Odysseus’s own impossible decision. It’s details like that which really make the story sing for someone like me who knows the original myths.

In Rick Riordan’s book, Percy Jackson cleverly uses the same trick Odysseus did against the Cyclops Polyphemus – pretending to be ‘Nobody’ – and it’s particularly clever because Polyphemus is already blinded. If the new Disney+ series stays true to the book, audiences will likely be familiar with these scenes – and many others – before Nolan’s movie adaptation comes out next year.

Rick Riordan’s books sparked many kids’ interest in Greek mythology, and now the Disney+ series is doing the same for an even larger audience through television. This makes it easier for viewers to understand the myths before they’re brought to life on IMAX screens next year with Nolan’s film.
