Sabrina Carpenter releases surprise Christmas Eve track… after awkwardly dodging question about her ex

Sabrina Carpenter gave her fans a Christmas Eve gift by releasing a special version of her album, ‘Man’s Best Friend,’ which includes the previously unreleased song ‘Such a Funny Way’.

Okay, so she finally released the new song and I’m seriously losing it! It’s just…perfect. She called it a ‘ditty,’ which is adorable, and said she’s so proud of it – and honestly, I totally get why! She’s always talked about wanting a song that felt like it existed in the same world as ‘Man’s Best Friend,’ and it does. It really, really does. I’ve listened like, ten times already.

As a little something special for my fans, I decided to release this emotional track as an early holiday treat! I just didn’t want you all to have to wait too long to hear it – I was so excited to share it with you!

Carpenter expressed gratitude to the audience for enjoying the music, calling it a wonderfully emotional and festive release, and hinted at future releases.

The new release happened only a few days after the singer was a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers. During the interview, Meyers questioned her about which of her former partners inspired her popular song, “Manchild,” which has sparked a lot of discussion among fans.

Rather than respond to the question, Carpenter calmly reached for a beer and took a deliberate drink while on camera, allowing the silence and the unanswered question to linger.

In “Such a Funny Way,” Carpenter perfectly captures the painful back-and-forth of loving someone who doesn’t fully reciprocate, as she sings about the confusing experience of being told ‘I love you’ while simultaneously feeling forgotten.

She sharply criticizes her complicated love interest with painful remarks, such as referencing a sweater from their first meeting while reminding him he once told her not to call, and pointing out that everyone else seems aware of information she’s not.

The song builds to its most biting moment as she admits, ‘I have to laugh just so I don’t cry.’

Back in June, Carpenter caused a stir online when she hinted at a possible dig at her ex-boyfriend, Barry Keoghan, while promoting her new song, ‘Manchild’.

The singer released a short, retro-style video hinting at her new song, and then excited fans by revealing it’s ‘about you!’ She announced the track, titled ‘Manchild,’ will be released this Thursday, June 5th at 8pm EST, and a limited-edition vinyl is already available.

She emphasized her point by posting a line from the song – “Inside of your head when you’ve just won an argument with a man” – which immediately excited her followers.

The comment section exploded with reactions, with one person writing, ‘We all know who you mean!’ and the dating app Grindr adding, ‘We were all thinking the same thing.’

Oh my gosh, everyone was losing it! It was like, just when I thought things couldn’t get any better, she came back, and the internet exploded! People were shouting ‘YES QUEEN!’ and basically telling Barry he was SO done, while screaming ‘SABRINA SUMMER IS BACK!’ I seriously couldn’t breathe, it was the best moment ever.

One fan connected the song to the artist’s previous work, commenting that the subject ‘deserved’ it because he hadn’t paid attention to her earlier requests – a reference to a previous song and music video featuring Keoghan.

Sabrina and Barry started dating in December 2023 and revealed their relationship to the public at the Met Gala in May 2024.

Although people thought they broke up by December, reports later indicated their relationship was complicated, with sources saying their busy work lives were creating problems.

Soon after, rumors surfaced suggesting the actor had been unfaithful. However, a source told Us Weekly that he truly cared about his partner’s well-being, explaining they were simply growing apart and wanted different things.

From what I’ve seen, things started to get tough for them as Carpenter’s career really took off. She was suddenly being pulled in a million different directions – photoshoots, interviews, events – and honestly, it became incredibly difficult to find the time and energy to nurture a relationship. It’s a common issue when someone’s career skyrockets, and it’s a real struggle to balance everything.

According to a source, the couple broke up in the past month because their busy schedules made it difficult to stay together. The source emphasized that the split was amicable and there wasn’t any conflict between them.

When Rolling Stone asked about her relationship with Barry Keoghan, Sabrina Carpenter playfully avoided a direct answer. She joked about how to answer the question, then explained that she’s drawn to people who are genuine, talented, and wonderful – and that’s what matters to her.

She explained that she writes songs based on her own feelings, so she wasn’t surprised people were curious about the inspiration behind them.
