Team Yandex defeats Team Spirit to claim its first tier 1 title at DreamLeague Season 27

The Yandex team, formed just six months ago, won their first Dota 2 tournament – the final Tier 1 competition of 2025.

After a tough loss in the grand finals of BLAST SLAM V against Tundra Esports, Team Yandex quickly recovered at DreamLeague Season 27. They defeated Team Spirit 3–1 in a five-game match.

Even after losing the first game to Team Spirit’s powerful Ravage and Cataclysm combination, the team from the CIS region quickly recovered, decisively winning the next three games.

The team demonstrated a diverse range of heroes in their drafts, including Tidehunter, Shadow Shaman, Tiny, Viper, and Phantom Assassin, which helped them win game after game. Notably, Team Yandex’s mid-player, Ilya “CHIRA_JUNIOR” Chirtsov, excelled with Tiny, repeatedly using the hero to disrupt Team Spirit’s positioning during team battles.

Banning Team Spirit’s Invoker

Team Yandex’s approach to facing Team Spirit was a group decision, according to player Arman “Malady” Orazbayev. They specifically chose to ban Denis “Larl” Sigitov’s Invoker because of how powerful its Cataclysm ultimate was in their first match.

Okay, so we talked it over as a team beforehand and decided to go with the same strategy we used yesterday. But they threw us for a loop by picking Invoker! That totally messed up our plans for games two and three, and we had to scramble. We ended up just banning Invoker every single game after that.

Malady is talking about their match against Team Spirit in the upper bracket final, which happened right before the championship match.

Team Yandex isn’t just made up of Malady and CHIRA_JUNIOR; it also includes skilled players like Alimzhan “watson” Islambekov, formerly a carry for Gaimin Gladiators, Martin “Saksa” Sazdov, a TI 11 winner who previously played position 4 for Tundra Esports, and Evgeniy “Noticed” Ignatenko, an ex-offlaner from Virtus.pro.
