Paddington fans have only days left before the entire trilogy is removed from Netflix

Get ready to say goodbye to Paddington on Netflix! The popular Paddington movies – Paddington (2014) and Paddington 2 (2017) – will be removed on December 31st. The newest film, Paddington in Peru (2024), will leave the platform shortly after, on January 7th, so fans have a little time left to watch them all.

As a huge fan, I’m so excited that the first two movies are available to watch right now! You can find them on BBC iPlayer for the next month, and they’re also streaming on Prime Video if you prefer.

The Paddington movies have been hugely popular with both critics and audiences, and are based on Michael Bond’s beloved stories about Paddington Bear’s journey from Peru to London. Ben Whishaw, known for his role in Skyfall, provides the voice for the charming, marmalade-loving bear throughout the three films.

Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Madeleine Harris, Julie Walters, and Samuel Joslin round out the cast, playing the members of the Brown family who open their home at 32 Windsor Gardens to Paddington.

Although Julie Walters originally played Mary Brown, Paddington’s mother, in the first two Paddington films, Emily Mortimer stepped into the role for Paddington in Peru.

All three Paddington movies have received high praise on Rotten Tomatoes, earning the “Certified Fresh” designation. Paddington scored 96%, while Paddington 2 came incredibly close to perfection with a 99% rating.

The third Paddington movie, Paddington in Peru, has a 93% approval rating. Because the three films have been so successful, a fourth movie is now confirmed. Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal and Deputy CEO of Canal+, announced that another film is in development, though details about when it will be released and what it will be about haven’t been revealed yet.

In a 2017 interview with The Times, Ben Whishaw talked about playing Paddington, saying the voice work was surprisingly challenging despite being a lot of fun.

The idea for Paddington likely came from Michael Bond noticing refugees in the 1950s. The story really focuses on how we treat those who are different from us – it’s about being welcoming and helping people who are struggling, and about recognizing the good in everyone, which is at the heart of Paddington’s personality.

The popular Paddington movies will soon be leaving Netflix. Both Paddington and Paddington 2 will no longer be available after December 31st, and Paddington in Peru will be removed on January 7th.
