Greg Barnett, a commissioning editor at Channel 5, described the series – which portrays veterinary surgeons working in the Yorkshire Dales during the first half of the 20th century – as a standout drama for the channel, consistently pleasing audiences each year.

This Christmas special is set in 1945, as the residents of Darrowby celebrate their first Christmas after the war. When Helen becomes ill, James steps in to organize the village Nativity play. Juggling rehearsals with his work as a vet is difficult, and he also worries about whether Tricki will become a father.

More excitement is brewing in Darrowby as Hilda the goat gets into mischief at Mrs. Stokes’ farm, but thankfully Siegfried is there to help.

The annual darts competition is happening at Skeldale, and Mrs. Hall is determined to win the top prize: a fresh turkey! Elsewhere, Tristan is in charge of setting up the Christmas tree, and Charlotte is lending a hand.

The story keeps going with the return of familiar faces and meaningful talks, all wrapped up in the joy of the season. Expect plenty of laughs, moments for thought, and maybe even a few unexpected twists. Could a Christmas romance be one of them? Tune in to find out!

Samuel West and Anna Madeley will both be back as Siegfried Farnon and Mrs. Hall, and we might finally see if their on-screen chemistry develops into a relationship.
