Peacock’s Friday the 13th Prequel Teases Jason Vorhees Won’t Be the Focus of the Show

I recently checked out the prequel to Stephen King’s It, which dropped on HBO Max last October and honestly, it blew up – becoming one of the biggest hits of 2025. Now, Peacock is jumping into the game with its own prequel, this time focusing on Friday the 13th. It’s shaping up to be a pretty interesting rivalry!

A24 is making a new series for Peacock about Pamela Vorhees, the mother of the killer from the original Friday the 13th movie. Linda Cardellini will play Pam in the series, which will also bring together several people who worked on It: Welcome to Derry. Brad Caleb Kane, the showrunner, told People that while Jason Voorhees will appear, the story will center around his mother, not him.

This show shares a similarity with It: Welcome to Derry. Like that series, the main threat isn’t immediately front and center. However, It: Welcome to Derry eventually revealed a lot about Pennywise’s backstory, and Crystal Lake will do the same – it will gradually explain the origins of its central mystery.

While details are scarce about Crystal Lake, Kane hinted that the film will heavily feature Linda. He explained that the story primarily focuses on Pamela Voorhees, saying, “It’s really Pam’s journey.” He also confirmed that Callum Vinson will play a role, and acknowledged that a Friday the 13th prequel wouldn’t be complete without Jason Voorhees, but the core narrative revolves around his mother.

People will be amazed by Linda’s performance,” Kane said. “She’s never really had a chance to display her incredible talent like this before. It’s a truly impressive acting performance, and she’s captivating to watch.

The show’s creator hinted at a dark and intense storyline. Described as a psychological thriller reminiscent of 1970s paranoia films, it shares elements with slasher movies but isn’t quite one. Expect a lot of violence—the show features gruesome deaths and inventive kill sequences—but these aren’t just for shock value. They’re all connected to the characters, the story’s themes, and the setting.

He explained that when the chance to create a Friday the 13th television series arose, his main goal was to recreate the feeling of the original movies for viewers.
