Christmas is almost here, so most TV shows – both fictional and reality-based – are now on break until the new 2026 season begins. The last episodes of Stranger Things are a notable exception. Late-night talk shows are also taking a holiday break, so major entertainment news over the next couple of weeks won’t be discussed on shows hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, or Seth Meyers.
I’m really excited for all my favorite shows to come back after the break! It feels like forever since we last saw them. I’m wondering exactly when they’ll be back, though. Let’s go through the list of all the shows we’re waiting for on the major networks.
When Does The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Return?
Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show wrapped up its 2025 season on Thursday, December 18th, allowing him to finish covering Stranger Things before the show’s final two volumes were released. Entertainment Weekly reports that the show will air reruns during the holiday week.
As of now, there’s no official date for when the show will be back. However, The Tonight Show is likely to stay on hiatus for at least another week, and could return either during the first or second full week of January.
When Does Jimmy Kimmel Live! Return?
Jimmy Kimmel is taking a holiday break after a challenging year. Following a tradition started in 2023, he won’t be filming new episodes for the last two weeks of the year. Instead, reruns will air this week and next. His last show of 2025, which aired on Thursday, featured an emotional look back at the year, shortly after ABC announced they’d renewed his contract through 2027.
An exact return date has not been revealed, but it will likely arrive in early January.
When Does The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Return?
Stephen Colbert has finished his last holiday break before his show ends in 2026. For the rest of 2025, the show will air reruns. Colbert will return in the new year to complete the final five months of the program, with the last episode airing in May.
Following the show’s cancellation, many celebrities and other late-night hosts have expressed their support. Jimmy Kimmel even used his own show to encourage people to vote for Stephen Colbert’s Emmy instead of his own. Hugh Jackman also performed a heartfelt rendition of “Sweet Caroline” as a tribute. While there’s no confirmed return date yet, fans can expect The Late Show to be back on air in early January.
When Does Late Night with Seth Meyers Return?
So, Seth Meyers is taking a break for the holidays, and NBC is just showing old episodes, according to Entertainment Weekly. It’s a bit of a timing thing, because it happened right after Trump was calling for all late-night shows to be canceled. Seth had some great guests recently – Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter – they even did a ‘Day Drinking’ segment with Sabrina. No word yet on when he’ll be back, but I’m guessing we’ll see him again in early 2026.
We’ll keep you updated late into the night, but rest assured, any noises you hear on your roof aren’t coming from Jimmy Fallon.
