A highly anticipated drama from director Mike Flanagan is set to premiere on Netflix in the UK and Ireland. Featuring Tom Hiddleston and Karen Gillan, The Life of Chuck tells the story of Charles “Chuck” Krantz (Hiddleston) by unfolding his life backwards – starting with his death, which happens at the very end of the universe, and ending with his childhood.
I’m so excited about the cast for this! It’s packed with amazing actors like Mark Hamill, Jacob Tremblay, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Plus, a lot of my favorites from Mike Flanagan’s other shows are returning – Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Carla Gugino, Samantha Sloyan, and so many more like Matt Biedel, Carl Lumbly, Violet McGraw, Sauriyan Sapkota, Annalise Basso, and Michael Trucco! It’s really a dream team.
The movie, adapted from a Stephen King story, first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. It was a critical and audience success, even winning the festival’s People’s Choice Award.

Empire says that The Life Of Chuck is a unique blend of post-apocalyptic drama, musical numbers, and a coming-of-age story with a supernatural twist. While it won’t appeal to all viewers, those who embrace its honest and heartfelt approach might find it deeply moving.

According to Vulture, Mike Flanagan’s film is full of interesting ideas that evolve throughout, and while these ideas could easily have been played for laughs, Flanagan skillfully avoids making the story a simple parody of its characters.
Fans of Flanagan won’t have to wait long for his next projects. The popular horror director is planning adaptations of both Stephen King’s Carrie and a new version of The Exorcist.
Amazon Prime Video is creating a TV series based on Carrie, starring Summer H. Howell as the iconic teenage girl with telekinetic abilities. The series will also feature Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, and Samantha Sloyan.
A new Exorcist film is in development with Scarlett Johansson, following the 2023 release of The Exorcist: Believer, which wasn’t well-received.
The Life of Chuck comes to Netflix on January 5.
