Percy Jackson Season 2 Cast on Book Changes and New Adventures in Season 3

The stars of Percy Jackson and the Olympians chatted with TopMob at a Paley Center event celebrating Season 2. They discussed differences between the show and the books, and hinted at what fans can look forward to in Season 3.

New episodes of the hit Disney+ show are being released each week. At a recent event, viewers got to see Episode 3, titled “We Board the Princess Andromeda,” and then hear from the actors involved, with Lin-Manuel Miranda acting as the host.

TopMob recently had an exclusive interview with the stars of Percy Jackson: Leah Sava Jeffries (who plays Annabeth Chase), Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue), Charlie Bushnell (Luke Castellan), and Daniel Diemer (Tyson). Walker Scobell, who plays Percy Jackson, also participated in the discussion.

Percy Jackson Cast Discusses Luke’s Season 1 Betrayal; Where Things Stand in Season 2

It’s difficult for my character because she has very strong feelings for Luke. He was like a brother and her main protector, truly the only person she really relied on – even more so than Thalia, since she’d spent a lot more time with Luke after Thalia wasn’t around as much.

Playing that character and that specific portrayal was really challenging. It was one thing to know Luke had betrayed her, but seeing him as a completely different person took it to another level, and it was emotionally difficult.

I’ve definitely expressed that idea before. While I don’t directly base my performance on Anakin Skywalker, our characters share a lot of similarities and follow similar paths. It’s a common theme, actually – you see it with characters like Killmonger in ‘Black Panther,’ too. These characters genuinely believe they’re doing what’s best for everyone, even if their methods are misguided. I definitely drew inspiration from those kinds of characters.

We’re hoping to be able to adapt the entire book series, because Luke—for those familiar with the books—has a very satisfying conclusion. It’s also wonderful to have diverse characters that viewers can admire and be inspired by.

Percy Jackson Cast Teases New Developments in Seasons 2 and 3

Dior Goodjohn explains that a key takeaway for Clarisse by the end of Season 2 is realizing the strength in relying on others for support. She learns that asking for help and leaning on people will ultimately be more effective than trying to handle everything on her own.

What’s really interesting is that in Season 3, a character briefly forgets something important, leading to a surprising connection between two characters. This unexpected pairing helps her rediscover the value of community and taking care of those who are younger. It’s a really clever move by the writers – I wouldn’t have predicted it, but it completely works and makes perfect sense when you see it happen.

Aryan Simhadri Reveals a Big Pan Moment Is on the Way

  • TopMob: Is there anything you can tease that may be coming up as Grover’s ongoing quest for Pan continues and branches out beyond what we see in the books?

One of my favorite moments involves a scene where the character gets very close to discovering who he believes Pan is, but it’s not quite right. There’s a really beautiful shot of him walking back to Percy and Annabeth, and I’m hoping the final version looks like what I’m picturing in my head. It still gives me chills when I think about it.

It’s a really touching moment – he almost connects with his father, but not quite. It just gets to me, it’s very emotional.

Daniel Diemer describes the character as a grounding force, really the heart of everything. She’s Percy’s main connection and source of support, and he believes she’s the reason Percy felt safe, particularly at the start of the show.

For me, she’s absolutely central to his journey and where he gets his resilience. She’s been with him from the very start, helping him to be brave and keep going, and she’s also been key in him finally finding a place where he feels safe and secure – a real home, at last.
