The superhero movie world, particularly at DC, is going through a big shift. DC’s co-CEO, James Gunn, is building a new interconnected universe called the DCU, starting with a series of films and shows called Gods and Monsters, which are available on HBO Max. Everyone is eager to see what Gunn has planned for the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. With Lars Eidinger now cast as the villain Brainiac, fans are creating artwork imagining his appearance, and hopefully, the official design will be similar to these impressive fan creations.
Now that Superman is finished, everyone’s wondering where the series will go next with Man of Tomorrow. Director James Gunn hinted that Clark Kent and Lex Luthor will have to team up against a new threat: Brainiac. An artist on Instagram shared their vision of what actor Michael Eidinger might look like as the villain – you can see it below!

Isn’t that awesome? Braniac’s appearance has changed a lot over time, but this design seems to be the most popular version we’re seeing now. It’s still uncertain if James Gunn and the team will go with this look, but this image proves Lars Eidinger could be perfect for the role in the new DC movie. We’ll have to wait and see when the director gives us a clue about the character’s final appearance in the DC Universe.
Fans have wanted to see Braniac, a powerful and dangerous Superman villain, in a DC Universe movie ever since the project began. While he’s appeared in comics, video games, and cartoons, he’s never been featured in a live-action film. It will be interesting to see how James Gunn brings this character to the big screen and what Braniac will look like.

HBO Max offers streaming access to a vast library of content, including everything from DC Comics – like shows and movies from the DCU, DCEU, and classic titles – plus thousands of other movies, shows, and documentaries. Plans begin at $10.99 per month (with ads).
In Superman, Nicholas Galitzine played Lex Luthor as someone obsessed with defeating Kal-El, driven by fear of his power and fame. However, this version of Lex wasn’t interested in world domination. I’m excited to see how he’ll react when Brainiac shows up and genuinely tries to conquer Earth and rule over everyone.
While the Man of Tomorrow movie isn’t coming to theaters next, DC fans will need to wait a bit longer for updates. First, we’ll see Supergirl, directed by Gillespie, following Milly Alcock’s character on a space adventure. Many are curious about how it might tie into the upcoming Superman movie, and if the villain Brainiac will be hinted at in any way.
The movie Supergirl is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 26, 2026. Man of Tomorrow is currently planned for release on July 9, 2027.
