After a seven-year wait, the 2018 crime thriller Night Hunter, featuring Henry Cavill, is now gaining popularity with viewers around the globe thanks to streaming on .
The movie Night Hunter has been a hit on Paramount+, consistently ranking among the top 10 most-watched films for the last week, according to data from FlixPatrol. Currently, it’s averaging a No. 6 ranking worldwide, a slight drop from yesterday when it was No. 4 in all available countries. This success is notable because Night Hunter initially struggled to find an audience when it was released directly to video-on-demand in 2018, despite featuring a well-known cast including Henry Cavill.
This 98-minute crime thriller features Henry Cavill as Walter Marshall, a detective in charge of a team tracking down a dangerous online predator. As the investigation progresses, Marshall and his team discover the crimes are much more extensive than they initially thought. The film also stars Stanley Tucci, Nathan Fillion, Ben Kingsley, and Alexandra Daddario as members of the team, and Brendan Fletcher as the person they suspect of kidnapping.
It’s a bit unexpected how well Night Hunter is doing, given the negative reviews it received when it came out. Critics heavily criticized the crime thriller for relying on tired, predictable tropes. Currently, the film has a 14% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, earning it a ‘Rotten’ label. Even though viewers seem to like it more, the audience score of 54% still isn’t great.
Night Hunter Was Henry Cavill’s Last Lead Role for 6 Years
Following the release of Night Hunter, Henry Cavill didn’t take on another leading role until 2024, when he starred in the comedies Argylle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. He remained active in film, however, appearing in supporting roles. He played Sherlock Holmes in two Enola Holmes films and made a surprise cameo in a post-credits scene. He also had a brief appearance as a version of Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Henry Cavill’s commitment to the Netflix series The Witcher – where he played the lead role of Geralt of Rivia from 2019 to 2023 – likely prevented him from taking on other film roles. After three seasons, Cavill left the show, and Liam Hemsworth took over the part for the fourth season, which premiered in October. A fifth and final season is currently being finished.

Now that he’s finished with The Witcher, Henry Cavill is taking on more film roles. He’s already completed three movies that fans are eagerly awaiting. The first, In the Grey, brings him back together with director Guy Ritchie, whom he worked with on Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. He’s also finished a yet-to-be-named project, and another Enola Holmes film.
Night Hunter is available to stream on Paramount+ in select countries.
