The follow-up to Liam Neeson’s 2021 action movie, The Ice Road, is now available and quickly becoming popular on streaming services worldwide. It’s currently ranking in the top charts in 17 countries on Prime Video, even reaching number three in the Dominican Republic, according to data from FlixPatrol.
In Ice Road: Vengeance, Liam Neeson returns as Mike McCann, an ice road trucker. This time, he travels to Nepal to fulfill his brother’s last wish by scattering his ashes on Mount Everest. However, his journey takes a dangerous turn when he crosses paths with a group of mercenaries on a perilous route called the Road to the Sky. He’s then forced to protect a bus full of passengers and the surrounding community.
When Ice Road: Vengeance was released, critics didn’t like it, giving it a score of only 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers weren’t much more impressed, with the movie receiving a 24% rating from users on the site.
Both new films received even worse scores than the first Ice Road movie, which was also poorly reviewed. Critics haven’t been kind – The Hollywood Reporter said the film will likely be quickly forgotten, even by fans of the original, while RogerEbert.com noted that the sequel doesn’t offer anything new compared to the many action movies Liam Neeson has starred in over the past ten years.
Interestingly, that element might be why the movie is doing so well. Ice Road: Vengeance is still attracting viewers around the world, even though critics and most fans haven’t been impressed. It’s similar to the unexpected success of Taken back in 2008, marking another film in Liam Neeson’s later career. Sometimes, audiences just want something familiar – a movie like one they already enjoy, even if it’s not quite as strong. Simply put, if you’ve been a fan of Neeson playing tough, older action heroes for the last 17 years, The Ice Road and Ice Road: Vengeance could be right up your alley.

Jonathan Hensleigh, the creator of The Ice Road, is back with a sequel, Ice Road: Vengeance. Liam Neeson reprises his role from the first film, and he’s joined by Fan Bingbing, Bernard Curry, Salim Fayad, and Geoff Morrell.
A sequel to The Ice Road, originally called The Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, was announced in 2023. The movie was filmed in 2024 in Australia, where a town in Victoria stood in for locations in Nepal.

The first Ice Road film was a thrilling action movie, and the new sequel delivers just as much excitement. According to Peter Jarowey of Vertical Entertainment, the premise – Liam Neeson battling mercenaries on the way to Mount Everest – is exactly what audiences want. After acquiring the sequel, Hensleigh expressed his excitement that more people would have the chance to see the film.
You can watch Ice Road: Vengeance on Prime Video everywhere, and on Netflix in the US. The original Ice Road movie is also on Netflix in the US, and available on other streaming services around the world.
