Jason Statham “Has Never Been Better” Than in This Underrated Action Thriller That’s Streaming Now

Jason Statham has been a popular action star thanks to films like The Transporter, The Meg, and The Mechanic. While you likely have a favorite Statham movie, there’s one performance many critics consider his best – and it’s now available to stream.

This action thriller, originally released in 2011, features Jason Statham in a standout performance – a role fans would love to see him revisit in a sequel. He plays Detective Sergeant Tom Brant, a classic rebellious cop who isn’t afraid to bend the rules – or use force – to uncover the truth.

Directed by Elliott Lester and written by Nathan Parker, the film Blitz follows Brant as he investigates a serial killer who is targeting police officers in Southeast London. The film stars Aidan Gillen, Mark Rylance, Zawe Ashton, Luke Evans, David Morrissey, and features ‘The Stath.’ Blitz is currently available to stream in both the United Kingdom and the United States, and can be watched for free on The Roku Channel.

Despite some noticeable flaws, Blitz is still worth seeing thanks to the strong performances from Jason Statham and Stephen Graham. The film received mixed reviews, with critics giving it a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and audiences scoring it even lower at 36%.

Fans of Blitz had plenty to enjoy. Hot Press gave the action thriller a very high rating of 4 out of 5, praising its clever script, fast pace, and darkly humorous take on morality. They called it a brilliant and gritty film. Empire magazine described it as a classic, tough crime thriller that showcases Jason Statham doing what he excels at.

The Scotsman newspaper stated that Blitz clearly understands what it does well. The Daily Mirror agreed, giving the film another 4/5 star review and adding that it’s a raw and intense action movie, with Jason Statham delivering a standout performance.

2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for Jason Statham, with the action star headlining at least two—and possibly three—thrilling new movies. First to hit theaters on January 30th will be Shelter, a collaboration with director Ric Roman Waugh, who previously worked on Angel Has Fallen. Here’s a look at what Shelter is all about…

A solitary man (Jason Statham) living on a faraway island saves a young girl (Bodhi Rae Breathnach) during a dangerous storm. This act pulls them both into a perilous situation, forcing him to face his troubled history as he tries to keep her safe. Together, they embark on a gripping adventure where they must fight to survive and find a path to healing.

In addition to his role in Shelter, actor Stath is also starring in Plane director Jean-François Richet’s upcoming film, Mutiny, scheduled for release on August 21, 2026. He will also collaborate with Timo Tjahjanto, the director of Nobody 2 and The Shadow Strays, on The Beekeeper 2, which Amazon MGM Studios will now distribute.
