Fans are getting excited as the eighth and final season of Outlander is set to premiere in just over a month, bringing an end to the long wait – often called ‘Droughtlander’. A recently released trailer, described as emotional and hinting at difficult scenes, has really ramped up the anticipation.
The new trailer shows Fraser’s Ridge thriving, and Jamie and Claire enjoying a peaceful family life. But trouble is brewing – war is coming, threatening everything they’ve built.
Despite knowing his time is limited, Jamie refuses to give up the fight. The question is, can he defy destiny, or are the Frasers doomed to repeat past failures when trying to alter the future?
What to Read Next
The trailer feels quite gloomy, suggesting a sad conclusion. However, this season feels different from others – we have no idea what to expect.
Season 8 of the show draws from Diana Gabaldon’s book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, and incorporates elements from the yet-to-be-released tenth and final book in the series.

Back in 2024, Gabaldon stated that the show will end differently to how it will on the page.
She believes most people will accept the changes, but the new version won’t be very similar to Book 10 due to space limitations.
The writers have plenty of source material for Season 8, including the entire novel Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, a summary of the tenth book, and most of the eighth book that hasn’t been adapted yet. It’s going to be a challenge to fit all of this into just one hour and still make a coherent story.

They’ve approached this much like they did with previous books: they’ve selected certain scenes and plot points and then built a simple structure around them to create a somewhat coherent narrative.
The new trailer suggests the upcoming season will be full of both joyful and sad scenes, and will feature several characters we already know and love.
You can watch Outlander on Starz in the US and MGM+ through Prime Video Channels in the UK. The eighth season will begin streaming on Friday, March 6th.
