Even though it ended in 2009, the show remains incredibly popular today. It’s recently been getting a lot of attention online as a reboot is planned.
The popular comedy Scrubs originally ran for eight seasons with its main cast, and a total of nine seasons. Discussions about bringing the show back began in late 2024, with the original creator, Bill Lawrence, involved. Before the revival premieres on ABC on February 25, 2026, Scrubs has seen a surge in popularity on streaming services, according to data from FlixPatrol.
The show Scrubs started at number seven on Apple TV’s rental charts on December 20th. It quickly climbed to number five by December 22nd, improving three positions in just two days.
Scrubs first aired on NBC on October 2nd, 2001, and quickly became a hit. While medical dramas are common, Scrubs stood out as a funny sitcom that was also surprisingly realistic.
Despite the project’s eventual success, some people were initially skeptical when the plans for a revival were revealed. However, the creators emphasized that this wasn’t just about making money, and they would only proceed if they had a compelling vision.
Bill Lawrence, the show’s creator, explained that he wouldn’t pursue an idea he didn’t believe in. He emphasized he wasn’t motivated by money and didn’t feel a need to revive Scrubs simply by recreating the original setting and characters. He felt that would be untrue to the show’s story.
What Happens in the Scrubs Revival?
As a huge Scrubs fan, I was really relieved to hear the revival won’t repeat the mistakes of Season 9, “Med School.” That season felt so different without the original cast, but this time around, it sounds like we’re getting the real deal! It makes perfect sense that Zach Braff, who played JD – basically the heart of the show – was the first one confirmed to return. It just feels right!

The original cast – Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley – will be back as their beloved characters Turk, Elliot, Carla, and Perry Cox. Joining them will be new additions to the cast, including comedy icon X Mayo, Vanessa Bayer (known from Saturday Night Live), Joel Kim Booster (Fire Island), Ava Bunn (Head Shot), Jacob Dudman (The Stranger), David Gridley (It Takes Three), Layla Mohammadi (Lioness), and Amanda Morrow (The Devil Wears Prada 2).
The upcoming season hints at a reunion for JD and Turk, who will be working together again after a long hiatus. The show will explore how the world of medicine has evolved since we last saw them, and the arrival of new interns will add to the mix. Thankfully, JD and Turk’s close friendship remains strong. Both familiar and new characters will face the challenges and joys of working at Sacred Heart, with plenty of laughs, heartwarming moments, and unexpected twists.
Scrubs premieres on Feb. 25, 2026, on ABC, and on Feb. 26, 2026, on Hulu.
