It’s incredible what Santa’s workshop can create! This handheld gaming PC has completely changed my gaming experience this year. While it’s not quite as user-friendly as devices like the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch 2, the Rog Xbox Ally X (£799) packs an amazing amount of power into a portable design – and it’s remarkably portable for such a powerful machine.
It’s definitely a pricey device. However, there’s a more affordable version, the Rog Ally (without the ‘X’), for £499. This still lets you play games on the go that used to be limited to TVs.

I also got a pair of SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds for my Ally X (they usually cost £150, but I found them on sale for £100) and I’m really happy I did. The sound is excellent, but the noise cancellation is the best part. They let me create my own quiet gaming space, even in noisy places like on a train or with a barking dog, whether I’m using the Ally X or a console at home.

The CRKD Gibson Les Paul Guitar controller (£119) is a bit too large for carrying around, but it’s a half-size replica of the iconic guitar. It’s made for playing games like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and even Fortnite, and it’s known for its great style, especially in the new sunburst finish. It’s also very well-made – likely the highest-quality guitar controller available.

If you’re looking for a traditionally shaped controller, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 (£50) is a great choice. I’ve actually started using it instead of more expensive controllers because it has a lot of the same features: customizable buttons, high-quality, long-lasting thumbsticks, a charging dock, and cool LED lights. Plus, it comes in purple – which is the best color, in my opinion, for controllers (and many other things!).
The Hyperkin Competitor (£39.99) is a simpler controller than the Ultimate 2, lacking wireless capability. However, it offers a feature many gamers will appreciate: it’s designed to look and feel like a PlayStation controller, letting Xbox and PC players enjoy the familiar side-by-side stick layout.

If your gift recipient isn’t actively playing a game with a controller, Lego offers a fantastic selection of gaming-themed sets. The Lego Game Boy (£54.99) is arguably the best – it’s a full-size, brick-built version of the classic Nintendo handheld! It even features buttons you can press and comes with replica game cartridges, including a copy of the beloved The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

As a huge Warhammer fan, I’ve been eyeing ‘The Art of Warhammer Video Games’! It’s a beautiful, high-quality hardcover book all about the incredible artwork from the games. Honestly, it’s perfect for anyone who loves the Warhammer universe, whether you’re a dedicated tabletop player or just appreciate the designs. What really seals the deal for me is that it comes with download codes for three PC games – and one of them is Vermintide, which is fantastic! It’s a really appealing package overall.
As a huge fan, I was thrilled with the Warhammer 40,000 Character Encyclopaedia! It’s fantastic because it really brings together everything from the video games and the tabletop game. And the best part? It came with a plastic miniature of Lieutenant Titus, the main character from Space Marine 2! You’ll need to supply your own glue, paints, and a little bit of hobby time, but it’s totally worth it.

The Art and Making of Sniper Elite (£60) has a straightforward, descriptive title, much like the Ronseal brand. While the Sniper Elite games are best known for their over-the-top, graphic depictions of enemies being hit, this book highlights a different strength: the series’ dedication to historical accuracy. It’s packed with detailed illustrations of uniforms, weapons, and fortifications, making it a great resource for anyone interested in World War II, not just fans of the games.
Even though it’s not a game, the 2000 AD Annual 2026 (£25) is a fun offering from the publishers of Sniper Elite. It’s a collection of stories spanning the history of the weekly sci-fi comic, including one where the famously stern Judge Dredd tries to cancel Christmas – with jail time for anyone who disagrees! It’s a bit like another grumpy character saying, ‘Bah! Humbug!’ – but everyone knows you can’t actually stop Santa and his elves.
