Nick Reiner remains on suicide watch while held in solitary confinement after doctors cite a ‘mental disability’

Nick Reiner is under close watch at Twin Towers Correctional Facility. Following his arrest, a mental health assessment led officials to place him on suicide watch.

According to a police source speaking with People magazine, 32-year-old Reiner is being held in solitary confinement and is required to wear a special blue garment designed to prevent self-harm at all times.

The source reports that his movements are strictly limited. He’s only allowed to leave his cell for court dates or doctor’s appointments, and he’s always accompanied by jail staff.

Reiner is accused of murdering both of his parents, director Rob Reiner, age 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, age 70. He faces two counts of first-degree murder.

Officials announced Monday that 32-year-old Nick has been arrested and is being held without bail in connection with the murder of a couple last Sunday.

According to sources at the Daily Mail, Los Angeles police were still building their case while Hollywood mourned the loss of a respected figure in the entertainment industry.

Police found a husband and wife dead at their home in Brentwood, California, on Sunday afternoon. Investigators believe they were killed by stab wounds.

The New York Times reports that the couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner, came home after a massage therapist couldn’t get into the house and called her for help.

Romy reportedly left the house after finding her father’s body, and a paramedic later told her that her mother had also been found dead inside.

According to reports, Reiner is only allowed to speak with his lawyer and authorized prison employees.

He’s not allowed to use the phone, eats his meals in his cell, and is under constant surveillance, even on camera when he’s moved around.

A police source told People magazine that these measures are in place to protect the sensitive investigation and ensure no one interferes with the case. The restrictions are meant to limit outside communication and questioning while detectives continue their work.

Doctors and mental health experts assessed Reiner soon after he arrived at the facility on December 15th.

The officer stated that doctors diagnosed a mental disability and found him to be at risk of harming himself, leading to the decision to monitor him closely for suicidal thoughts.

According to a source, when he was booked into jail on December 15th, mental health professionals assessed him and found he was at risk of self-harm. He will continue to be closely monitored for suicide until a doctor determines he is no longer in danger, which could take an extended period based on his condition.

Honestly, everything moved SO fast with Reiner’s case! It was like, because everyone knew who he was, they just fast-tracked everything. They really pulled out all the stops, you know? It was amazing to see, though I wish it hadn’t come to this in the first place. But they definitely prioritized getting things moving for him.

He arrived at the jail at 8:54 a.m. and completed the intake process – including medical and psychological evaluations – in under four hours. This is much quicker than the usual 24-hour timeframe.

The officer stated that the man was examined by medical personnel, including the doctor at the courthouse, and they confirmed he was well enough to be present for the court proceedings. This assessment only covered his ability to attend, not his overall health.

I’ve been following the Reiner situation so closely, and I just learned that while he’s on suicide watch, someone checks on him every fifteen minutes! Thankfully, the reports say he hasn’t tried to hurt himself, which is such a relief. I’m just constantly worried about him, and knowing they’re keeping such close watch… it helps, a little.

I’ve been following this case closely, and I’m really worried. The officer just told me he’s going through a tough time with his mental health. He’s been kept isolated in his cell and barely speaks to anyone, which is just heartbreaking to hear.

Reiner made his first court appearance on December 17 at Los Angeles Superior Court.

When the judge asked Reiner if he was willing to give up his right to a quick court appearance, he replied, “Yes, your Honor.”

Nick’s attorney, Alan Jackson, stated that the case involves complicated and significant problems. He requested that everyone allow the legal process to unfold naturally, without jumping to conclusions.

Earlier this week, Nick’s siblings Romy, 27, and Jake, 34, released a heart wrenching statement.

The siblings shared a statement saying they are heartbroken and struggling with immense pain after their loss.

Losing our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, was a deeply painful and heartbreaking experience, and something we wouldn’t wish on anyone.

Our parents were more than just family—they were our closest friends. We’re so thankful for the incredible support, kindness, and sympathy we’ve received from everyone, including loved ones and people we’ve never met.

The couple requested respect and privacy, and asked the public to respond to rumors with kindness and understanding.

Jake and Romy want people to remember their parents – a famous Hollywood figure and a celebrated photographer – for how wonderfully they lived and how much love they shared.

Romy and Jake’s comments followed a similar tribute from their father’s longtime friend, Billy Crystal, who recently spoke about the director after his passing.

The actor, well-known for his work with Rob Reiner in ‘When Harry Met Sally,’ was among many friends and colleagues – including Larry David, Martin Short, and director Barry Levinson – who hailed him as both a brilliant comedic performer and a gifted storyteller.

The statement highlighted that no other director possesses such a diverse skillset. It also celebrated Rob Reiner’s remarkable career in film and his wonderful 36-year marriage to his wife, Michele, whom they described as his ideal partner.
