I’m really excited about the potential showdown between Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, and recent news reminded me they’re working together on more than just that! It turns out Bernthal and Holland will appear in two projects together, making 2026 look like a big year for both of them – and I couldn’t be happier about it.
During an appearance at Tokyo Comic-Con 2025 (reported by The Direct), Jon Bernthal was questioned about the upcoming Brand New Day project. He didn’t reveal any plot details, but he surprisingly mentioned a previous connection with his co-star. Before joining the Marvel universe, Bernthal had already worked with the Uncharted actor on Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey. This means audiences will see them together in two very different projects one after the other, as Bernthal pointed out.
I really enjoy working with Tom. It’s wonderful to be collaborating with him again, especially after our time on the Christopher Nolan film and then Spider-Man. I have so much respect for him, and it was a pleasure watching the young actors on set excel and deliver amazing performances. They’re incredibly talented, and I’m proud to be friends with them both.
It’s exciting to remember this Marvel team-up isn’t just a single event! It’s a real reunion that we’ll see play out over two big movies coming in 2026 – they’re only a few months apart, but totally different in how big they are and what kind of feel they have. I’ve noticed the director has known Tom Holland for a long time and has seen his career develop, and that definitely influences how he talks about working with him now.
I have immense respect and admiration for both Sebastian and Tom Holland. Sebastian is an incredibly talented performer, and it’s been a pleasure watching his career unfold – he’s truly one of a kind. I’ve known Tom Holland since he was a teenager, and I feel the same way about him.
Jon Bernthal’s remarks strongly suggest he thoroughly enjoyed working with Tom Holland and would gladly do so again. He speaks about Holland with a genuine comfort that goes beyond typical publicity, hinting that their collaboration on Brand New Day won’t be their last.
The timing of this news fits with the direction Marvel seems to be taking Spider-Man. They’ve been shifting Peter Parker back to focusing on smaller, local problems instead of massive, world-threatening events. Given this shift, a crossover with a character like the Punisher feels natural, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Spider-Man interacting more with the heroes from the Defenders side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Punisher’s appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day raises some interesting possibilities. There’s talk that Frank Castle won’t be working solo, and might be joined by a new sidekick inspired by the comics. Sources suggest this ally will be a female character, with Sadie Sink as a potential actress for the role, but Marvel isn’t confirming any details. If this is true, it could make the Spider-Man team-up even more surprising and engaging.
Both actors have busy schedules planned for 2026. Christopher Nolan’s film, The Odyssey, will be released on July 17th, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day will follow shortly after, on July 31st.
