While Peacock doesn’t have as many subscribers as Netflix or Disney+, it’s quietly become a really good streaming service. It offers a strong selection of movies and TV shows, and it’s especially known for its excellent holiday content.
You can find classic Christmas favorites like Miracle on 34th Street and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, along with movies like Die Hard (even though some debate if it’s really a Christmas movie!). The service boasts a great selection of holiday films, including some lesser-known but delightful hidden gems.
Genie (2023)

If you’re looking for a fun holiday movie you might not have heard of, check out Genie. It’s a remake of a 1991 British TV movie called Bernard and the Genie, and it originally aired on Peacock without getting much attention.
The show Genie follows Bernard, a man struggling with a demanding job and a difficult boss. His life starts to fall apart until he unexpectedly frees a genie who’s been imprisoned for millennia. It’s a straightforward story, and that’s actually one of its strengths.
The movie benefits from a talented cast, led by Melissa McCarthy as the Genie, who brings her signature humor and charisma to the part. Paapa Essiedu, Alan Cumming, and Luis Guzmán also deliver strong performances in supporting roles.
A Madea Christmas (2013)

Tyler Perry’s Madea movies are definitely a mixed bag. While critics often haven’t liked them, particularly the more recent ones, audiences continue to enjoy and watch them, clearly still loving Perry’s famous character.
More movies are still being made in the series, and A Madea Christmas is the eighth one. It’s typical for a comedy series that’s been going strong for a while to release a holiday film, and this one feels similar to other Madea movies.
Although movie critics didn’t love A Madea Christmas, fans enjoyed it much more. The film received a 70% audience score, while critics only gave it a 21% rating. This suggests that if you’re a fan of Madea’s style of comedy, you’ll likely find A Madea Christmas entertaining.
The Grinch (2018)

The story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been adapted for the screen many times. Both the beloved 1966 animated version and the popular 2000 live-action film starring Jim Carrey are currently available to stream on Peacock.
Despite the popularity of past Grinch movies, the 2018 version doesn’t always get the appreciation it deserves. While it was a financial success, earning over $540 million worldwide, many still consider it underrated. This version successfully blends the humor of the live-action film with the heartwarming story of the original animated classic.
The movie The Grinch was generally well-received, especially for its appeal to children, its bright and colorful animation, and the performances of the voice actors. Benedict Cumberbatch brings a fresh take to the character of the Grinch, making this a particularly enjoyable film.
Frosty The Snowman (1969)

Similar to beloved holiday specials like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman is a classic animated film from that same time period. Despite only being 25 minutes long, it’s surprisingly heartwarming and full of feeling.
The classic holiday special, Frosty the Snowman, was a ratings hit when it first aired and was a beloved tradition on CBS for many years. Now, NBC owns the rights, so you can stream it on Peacock whenever you’re feeling festive!
As a film buff, I really appreciate the animation in this one. It’s not flashy, but it’s surprisingly timeless and honestly adds to that warm, fuzzy feeling of nostalgia. And the music? Absolutely lovely! It’s the perfect family film to get you in the Christmas spirit as the holidays approach.
Just Friends (2005)

Though not specifically a Christmas movie, Just Friends is set during the holidays and has become a seasonal favorite for many. Simply seeing all the Christmas decorations throughout the film, which is set in New Jersey, makes it enjoyable.
Ultimately, Just Friends is a classic romantic comedy about Chris and Jaime, who were high school best friends. Chris had a crush on Jaime, but she only saw him as a friend, leading him to leave town and reinvent himself as a successful and charming guy in California. Years later, he comes back home and reconnects with her.
Honestly, what really makes this movie work for me is watching the characters reconnect as friends and maybe even find something more, despite all the obstacles thrown their way. And let me tell you, the Christmas vibes combined with a seriously funny cast – Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart, Anna Faris, and Julie Hagerty are all fantastic – make it a movie I can watch over and over again. It’s just so rewatchable!
Violent Night (2022)

While many holiday movies focus on heartwarming stories, some are just plain fun because they’re packed with action and excitement. That’s why films like Die Hard, Iron Man 3, and Batman Returns remain so popular. The new movie Violent Night continues this tradition and is a really enjoyable ride.
The 2022 film presents a unique take on Santa Claus, portraying him as an immortal Viking. When a family is taken hostage by mercenaries, Santa must rediscover his skills as a warrior to rescue them. The movie is a non-stop action adventure, starring David Harbour in the role of Santa Claus.
Critics and audiences loved Violent Night for being a really fun and action-packed movie. While it didn’t make a huge splash in theaters, it’s become popular on streaming, and a sequel is already planned for 2026.
Jingle All The Way (1996)

Throughout the 1980s and 90s, Arnold Schwarzenegger was incredibly popular and successful. After becoming a huge star with The Terminator films, everything he did – whether it was action movies like True Lies and Kindergarten Cop, or comedies like Twins – was a hit.
But Jingle All the Way really showcases Arnold Schwarzenegger at his funniest. He plays a busy dad who tries to make it up to his son by finding the perfect Christmas gift. Unfortunately, he procrastinates, and ends up on a chaotic, last-minute hunt for the hottest toy – a Turbo Man doll – on Christmas Eve.
The movie is full of hilarious moments, like a brawl with Santas and a running rivalry with a man named Myron over a popular toy, culminating in a chaotic parade scene. While critics didn’t love it, it’s become a holiday tradition for many people.
Rise Of The Guardians (2012)

Rise of the Guardians is a unique and worthwhile film, especially for the holidays. It’s inspired by the book series The Guardians of Childhood and tells the story of legendary figures from beloved children’s tales.

This story reimagines Santa Claus as one of a team of magical guardians – including the Easter Bunny, Sandman, and Tooth Fairy – who unite with Jack Frost to defeat the evil Pitch Black and prevent him from covering the world in darkness. It presents a Santa Claus quite unlike the traditional image we’re familiar with.
This Santa Claus is a bit different – he has tattoos, a Russian accent, and a surprisingly tough side, brought to life by Alec Baldwin’s voice. Although the movie Rise of the Guardians isn’t specifically about Christmas, it’s really fun to see Santa embark on this adventure. The film was a critical success, earning Annie Awards and a Golden Globe nomination.
The Night Before (2015)

If you’re looking for a hilarious Christmas movie, The Night Before is a great choice, but it’s definitely not for kids! This adult comedy is best enjoyed after the little ones are asleep.
The movie The Night Before follows three lifelong friends – Ethan, Chris, and Isaac (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anthony Mackie, and Seth Rogen) – who make it a tradition to spend Christmas Eve searching for the legendary Nutcracker Ball, a notoriously exclusive party. They’ve never managed to get in, but their annual quest is always a blast. This year, however, Ethan manages to get his hands on tickets, promising a potentially different outcome.
Even though the movie contains some crude humor, The Night Before is ultimately a heartwarming film thanks to the strong friendship between its three leads. It also boasts a fantastic cast, including Lizzy Caplan, Mindy Kaling, Michael Shannon, Tracy Morgan, and a surprise appearance by Miley Cyrus.
The Best Man Holiday (2013)

Released in 1999, The Best Man quickly became a beloved classic in many Black homes. The film featured a fantastic cast, including early performances from Regina Hall, Nia Long, and Taye Diggs. Despite not being a major box office success initially, a sequel unexpectedly arrived over ten years later.
The sequel, The Best Man Holiday, reunited much of the original cast and performed even better at the box office. The story revisits these college friends during a Christmas reunion, bringing back old competitions and romantic feelings.
Just like the original movie, “The Best Man Holiday” was praised by critics for its realistic drama and humor. The actors are still great, and if you enjoyed this story, you can find a limited series sequel on Peacock that came out in 2022.
