Oh my gosh, Lucy Punch is just amazing in Amandaland, but she told me she was actually terrified to look at the reviews! Can you believe it? Apparently, this was her first time as the main star, and she was so worried about how everyone would react. She said she had ‘a lot of fear’ – honestly, she’s so relatable, even though she’s a brilliant actress! I just want to tell her she absolutely killed it and everyone loves her performance!
The 47-year-old actress stars as Amanda in the BBC show, and a Christmas special is coming soon.
Amandaland continues the story begun in the series Motherland, which ran from 2016 to 2022, and centers around the character Lucy.
Lucy recently shared that she was initially very anxious when the show’s producers proposed a spin-off centered around her taking the lead role.
She admitted to The Times that she anticipated feeling let down that the new show wasn’t a continuation of ‘Motherland,’ and that she would miss the show’s wonderful and well-loved characters.
Amanda is a character many viewers love to dislike. I worried about making her the main focus of the story – would audiences connect with her, or would they just continue to dislike her? I was honestly quite anxious about how people would react.

She added: ‘I’ve never been front and centre before!’
She admits she was too anxious to look at the reviews when her book, Amandaland, was released in February. But after her agent shared some positive feedback, she learned they were excellent.
She explained she was incredibly thankful the spin-off series was created, as it was a major opportunity for her.
I was so excited when the BBC finally released the first trailer for the Amandaland Christmas special just last week! I’ve been waiting for this for ages.
British comedy series Amandaland hit our screens on BBC One back in February.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following ‘Amandaland,’ and it really resonates with so many of us! It’s a show about Amanda, a mom navigating life after divorce. She’s doing the whole balancing act – raising her kids, exploring a new relationship, and trying to connect with other parents at school. It’s relatable, honest, and a really good look at modern motherhood.
BBC iPlayer’s new show, ‘Life After Motherland,’ follows a mom navigating the challenges of an empty nest, including teenage kids and a demanding mother of her own. Starring Lucy Punch and Joanna Lumley, the series shows even the most capable moms need help.
Viewers were thrilled to learn in October that a holiday special would feature Amanda Hughes (played by Lucy Punch), her mother Felicity Sanderson (Joanna Lumley), and Anne Flynn (Philippa Dunne).
The story begins with Amanda, her family, and friends Mal and Anne traveling to her Aunt Joan’s house in the countryside.

Joan was thrilled to see Amanda, but Amanda’s mother, Felicity, didn’t seem as happy about the reunion.
In a video clip, Amanda is shown giving a gift to her aunt, who seems surprised and asks, “Didn’t I just give you that?”
Amanda simply replies: ‘Yes.’
In another scene Anne can be seen telling Mal: ‘I really think Amanda deserves to know.’
She pops her head around the corner of the door and asks: ‘What do I deserve to know?’
In October, Joanna mentioned on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show that she was beginning a new season of “Amandaland.” This show originally started as a spin-off from the very popular and well-received series, “Motherland.”
Lucy Punch is fantastic! We’re beginning production on seven new episodes, including a Christmas special that will air this year.
Holly Walsh, Helen Serafinowicz, Barunka O’Shaughnessy, and Laurence Rickard are the writers of Amandaland.
The show is directed by Simon Bird and Alyssa McClelland.
This new comedy series is based on the popular show Motherland, which aired for three seasons with a total of 19 episodes between 2016 and 2022.
Sharon Horgan, Graham Linehan, Helen Serafinowicz, and Holly Walsh all created and wrote Motherland.

It followed the lives of a group of parents whose children all attended the same school.
Anna Maxwell Martin starred as Julia Johnstone, with Diane Morgan as Liz, Paul Ready as Kevin Brady, and Tanya Moodie as Meg.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been watching the numbers, and it’s amazing to see how popular Amandaland has become! Since it first aired in January, the series has been averaging a fantastic 6.4 million views – making it the BBC’s second-biggest comedy launch ever. It’s clearly resonating with audiences, and I’m not surprised!
The Amandaland Christmas Special will air on Christmas Day at 9:15pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
