Alexandra Daddario Replaces Gal Gadot As The DCU’s Wonder Woman In Art Following Her Casting Comments & Movie Updates

A new Wonder Woman movie is in the works as part of the DC Universe franchise. Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Diana Prince, and the film will be a key component of the first chapter of James Gunn’s rebooted DCU, “Gods and Monsters.”

Alexandra Daddario is a fan favorite to play Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe. Digital artist Horrific Heroics created artwork imagining her as Diana, succeeding Gal Gadot, who previously portrayed the character in the DC Extended Universe. You can see the artwork below.

In an October 2025 interview with ScreenRant, Alexandra Daddario learned about the fan art people were creating of her as the DC character. She admitted, however, that she hadn’t actually seen any of it.

Honestly, I wouldn’t say no if I got the chance! Alexandra Daddario mentioned that working with James Gunn would be a dream come true, but she hadn’t even heard anything about it happening, which is a little surprising.

The new Wonder Woman movie for the DC Universe was officially announced on June 10, 2025. James Gunn revealed on July 21st that Ana Nogueira, who wrote Supergirl, is currently working on the script. After the positive reception to Superman, DC Studios is moving quickly to develop this reboot of Diana Prince’s story.

James Gunn recently told Rolling Stone that a new Wonder Woman movie is a high priority for the DC Universe. He also discussed plans for a reboot of Batman within the DCU.

I’m not sure what people mean by ‘fast-tracking’ things. [Laughs.] Wonder Woman has always been a top priority for me. We’ve made some initial progress, and there’s a TV show we’re hoping to approve very soon. Now that some time has passed, we really need to move forward with both Wonder Woman and Batman – they’re crucial to our plans. So I’ve been talking to everyone at DC to figure out the best way forward. We have talented writers working on Wonder Woman, but we need to ensure the script comes together efficiently and doesn’t take an excessively long time to complete.

Patty Jenkins, the director of the Wonder Woman movies in the previous DC film universe, was recently asked if she’d be interested in directing the character again as the new DC Universe develops its own version. She responded that she wouldn’t rule it out, saying, “I love Wonder Woman.”
