Ghosts’ Devan Chandler Long Told Me ‘The Others’ Are ‘Connected To Someone In The House,’ And I Have Guesses

Be warned: spoilers for the Ghosts episode “It’s a Wonderful Christmas Carol – Part Two” follow! If you haven’t watched the Season 5 holiday special yet, you can stream it now with a Paramount+ subscription.

The recent holiday episodes of Ghosts delivered more than just festive scares. A major surprise came at the very end when Patience introduced the enigmatic “Others.” I’m eager to find out who these shadowy figures are when the show returns to CBS next year. Devan Chandler Long hinted they’re linked to one of the house’s residents, so I’m starting to wonder which ghost might know their identities.

What Devan Chandler Long Said About ‘The Others’

Just to refresh your memory, at the end of Season 5, Episode 10, after Patience and Trevor kissed, the ghost played by Mary Holland led Trevor to meet a group she called “The Others.” She seemed to believe Trevor and Patience belonged together and wanted them to get to know her friends. Both the ghost, who wasn’t wearing pants, and Sass were surprised by this introduction.

I recently interviewed Devan Chandler Long, their co-star, and asked him about this important scene. He didn’t give me any details, but he did offer some insight, explaining that:

Let me give you a hint about the Others: they’re linked to someone living in the house. In fact, someone in the house knows who they are. This is a twist I didn’t see coming – I never imagined this could happen! But the writers have surprised us again. The Others aren’t what they appear to be.

That’s a really interesting point. The Others have always been central to a key mystery in Ghosts, and Long’s recent comments have only highlighted that question further.

To add to the mystery, he revealed that The Others aren’t just connected to someone living in the house – they’ll actually play a major role when Ghosts comes back for a new season in 2026. He then continued by saying:

We’re also going to have to address the other people involved. It’s not just a simple greeting or check-in; there are a lot of serious issues we need to handle with them.

I’m trying to understand who is familiar with these characters and what their relationships are, as they seem important for the rest of Season 5.

With Paramount+, you can stream CBS shows like Ghosts, with new episodes added just one day after they first air on TV. Subscriptions start at $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year. See the deal here.

My Guesses About Who ‘The Others’ Are Connected To

Considering Devan Chandler Long’s statements, I’ve come up with a few possible explanations. While it could potentially connect to any of the ghosts – even characters like Thor or Sam and Jay – I’ve focused on three main theories.

I think Hetty is the most probable suspect. She has a strong connection to the manor, and it makes sense that ‘The Others’ are linked to the Woodstone family, possibly even Elias. It’s also believable that other family members might have hidden themselves underground, away from the house. However, because it seems so obvious, I’m starting to doubt it’s actually Hetty.

The biggest unanswered questions on the show center around Sass. We still don’t know how he died – he’s the only main ghost whose cause of death hasn’t been explained. It would make sense if his death was linked to The Others, and I think we might find out more about it later in the season.

I’m thinking either Trevor or Pete might be connected to “The Others.” My reasoning is that they both died relatively recently compared to the other ghosts. Also, both of their deaths happened with a lot of people present at the manor, which could be a significant clue.

Plus, Trevor looked like he recognized The Others when they appeared, so there’s that, too.

I have some ideas about who ‘The Others’ might be, but I don’t think I’m going to guess correctly. Long was completely surprised by their identities and connections, so I’m preparing to be shocked as well. It’s still fun to speculate about their relationships to the ghosts, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll stumble upon the right answer.
