Stephen Lang addresses Avatar future after “extremely rewarding” experience

Avatar: Fire and Ash spoilers follow.

Stephen Lang, who plays Colonel Miles Quaritch in the Avatar films, has discussed what the future holds for him and his character after appearing in three movies, including the recently released Fire and Ash.

In the third movie directed by James Cameron, Quaritch appears to give his life to protect his son, Spider, during the last fight.

While his death would feel like a natural end to his story, we don’t actually see him die. He’s technically died before – at the end of the first movie, his mind was transferred into a new Na’vi body.

So what’s going on? Is this another fake-out, or just the next step in Quaritch’s story?

As far as Lang is concerned, he’s definitely keen for more.

The actor told Digital Spy he’d be happy to continue playing Quaritch if the character’s story continues.

Working on this project has been incredibly fulfilling. No matter what the future holds, Avatar will always be a significant part of my life.

I would be thrilled to keep collaborating with this team, especially Jim Cameron and such talented actors.

Lang was already set to appear in the fourth and fifth Avatar movies, if those films are made.

Whether or not more films like Fire and Ash are made depends on how well this one does. Regardless, Lang hopes the movie resonates with viewers on a personal level.

He expressed hope that the story would not just meet viewers’ expectations, but exceed them – especially regarding the characters and the underlying messages or themes.

Looking at it like that, the core ideas in the Avatar story are really about uplifting and celebrating the best qualities of people.

You can now see Avatar: Fire and Ash in movie theaters. The second and third Avatar films are available to stream on Disney+. The fourth movie is planned to come out on December 21, 2029.
