G2 Esports has decided to disband G2 Hel, their League of Legends team comprised of female players. Here’s a summary of the situation.
Despite a strong 2025 season and previous victories, G2 Esports has decided to disband their female League of Legends team, G2 Hel.
G2 Hel disbanded
The esports team announced they were breaking up with a video looking back at their history together.
It’s been a Hel of a ride.
We’re wrapping up the G2 Hel project today. It’s been an amazing ride – from hilarious memes to over three years of leading the way, we’re so grateful for everything! ❤️
The official reason for the team’s disbandment hasn’t been stated. However, people familiar with the situation suggest it was due to a lack of funding and sponsorship. Interestingly, Riot Games recently began allowing betting sponsorships for teams in League of Legends and VALORANT.
This year, the team achieved victories at both the Equal eSports Cup 2025 and the Nova Series: Prélude. They also finished as finalists in the very first League of Legends Game Changers 2025 Rising (LGC) tournament.
G2 Hel’s past and future
G2 Hel was founded in late 2022 and quickly rose to prominence as a leading team in women’s and marginalized genders esports. They consistently performed well in tournaments and even played in the NLC during their first competitive season.
G2 Hel’s team featured several well-known players, including the bot-lane pairing of Maya “Caltys” Henckel and Ève “Colomblbl” Monvoisin, who played together on G2 until the team dissolved.
Jungler Marta Mesas, known as “Shiina,” expressed her gratitude to the organization in a social media post. She wrote that she was incredibly thankful for the chance to have been a part of the team for the past two and a half years. She said she’ll miss all of her teammates this year, describing them as amazing people, and jokingly mentioned a running joke about a ‘leash picture’ following her even as she says goodbye.
Caltys posted something similar and appeared thrilled to have news for her followers. It’s possible she’s hinting at a new team after switching to the midlane position.
Rym Salloum, a mid-laner known as “rym,” expressed immense gratitude, calling it the best year of her life thanks to her incredible teammates and supportive organization. She shared that she’ll always fondly remember 2025 and is excited for what’s next!
So, it looks like the entire team, including our coach Emtest, is now free agents. They’re all searching for new teams to join, but they’ll be competing separately for now. It’s a bit sad to see them go, but I’m excited to see what each of them does next!
