The TV moments that received the most complaints this year have been published. According to Ofcom, episodes of Love Island were the subject of the top three complaints.
The biggest complaints stem from accusations of bullying directed at contestant Shakira Khan. The July 24th episode received the most complaints – 3,547 – followed by the July 22nd episode with 2,509, and then the July 23rd episode with 2,002.
Throughout the show, some viewers felt Shakira wasn’t being judged fairly, especially after she started dating Harry Cooksley. The couple ultimately finished as finalists.

In August, Ofcom announced it wouldn’t be taking action on the 14,000 complaints it received about the show. A spokesperson told BBC News that they had thoroughly reviewed the complaints regarding this season of Love Island.
We understand that intense or argumentative moments can be distressing to watch. However, we believe the show didn’t present negative behavior as acceptable, and contestants were often shown offering each other support or apologies.

As a gamer, I knew going into this reality show format that people expect a rollercoaster. Everyone wants to see the drama – the good times, the bad times, and how relationships between contestants get pushed to their limits. We kept that in mind while building the challenges and overall experience.
So, Ofcom just dropped their report for 2025, and it’s good news – fewer people complained overall compared to last year. But honestly, reality TV still gets a ton of heat! More than half of the top complaints were about those shows, and a huge chunk of those – about a third, actually – were all about Love Island. It’s always drama with that show, isn’t it?

Several shows also received complaints: an episode of Vanessa on June 10th, which featured a discussion about breastfeeding and garnered 1,866 complaints, and language used by Mickey Rourke towards JoJo Siwa on Celebrity Big Brother on April 9th, which resulted in 1,008 complaints.
After repeatedly acting inappropriately, including using homophobic slurs towards JoJo Siwa, the actor was asked to leave the property.
Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
