Netflix Renews Last Samurai Standing for Season 2

The popular samurai drama Shogun is returning for another season. After FX’s well-received 2024 adaptation of Shogun proved successful, Netflix quickly created its own samurai series, which also became very popular.

The show debuted on November 13th, and Netflix quickly renewed Last Samurai Standing for a second season just a month later. Like Shogun, it’s based on a novel – specifically, Shogo Imamura’s book of the same name. Netflix announced the news on its Tudum site, confirming that the character Kokushu the Manslayer, also known as Shujiro Saga, will return for another season.

Writer and director Michihito Fujii announced that the show has been officially renewed for a second season, expressing his excitement in a statement.

Honestly, just imagining what we’ll create with this team gets me so excited! Junichi Okada is leading the charge, and I’m already getting goosebumps thinking about all the incredible things we’re going to do.

The creator hinted that the next season will be more ambitious and improved compared to the first one.

Junichi Okada, the actor playing Shujiro Saga, is also helping behind the scenes as a producer and fight choreographer. He shared his enthusiasm for returning to the series and working with the team again. Like the director, he hopes the next season will be even more exciting and full of action.
