Star Trek Series Leave Netflix Internationally On January 8, 2026

January 8, 2026, will be a disappointing day for Star Trek fans around the world. After ten years, Netflix will no longer stream the classic Star Trek series that have been available since 2016.

Netflix streaming helped Star Trek find a new generation of fans, particularly during a 12-year gap between television series. After Star Trek: Enterprise ended in 2005, there weren’t any new Star Trek shows on TV until Star Trek: Discovery debuted on CBS All-Access (now Paramount+) in September 2017.

Starting in 2011, Netflix offered streaming access to all of the original Star Trek series, including The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and The Animated Series in the United States. However, by September 2021, all of these shows had moved from Netflix to Paramount+.

People outside of the United States who subscribe to Netflix have been able to watch all six original Star Trek television series thanks to an agreement that began in 2016. Sadly, that agreement will end after ten years.

Five Classic Star Trek Episodes Leave Netflix On January 8

Unfortunately, several Star Trek series – including The Original Series, The Animated Series, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise – will be removed from Netflix internationally on January 8, 2026. This might be because the cost of licensing Star Trek from Paramount Skydance has increased, or simply because Netflix’s current licensing agreement has ended and they’ve chosen not to renew it.

The original Star Trek series were added to Netflix in many countries as part of an agreement to help fund Star Trek: Discovery. While Discovery aired on CBS All-Access (later Paramount+) in the United States, it was marketed as a “Netflix Original” outside the US. In 2023, Star Trek: Discovery moved to being available only on Paramount+ worldwide.

Netflix significantly boosted the popularity of classic Star Trek, both in the United States and around the world. Shows like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise found new audiences—viewers who were too young to watch them originally or missed them the first time around. As a result, these three series have gained even more recognition and appreciation than they did when they first aired.

December 31, 2025, Is Another Sad Day For Star Trek Fans

Okay, Trekkies, heads up! As of December 31st, 2025, J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek trilogy – that’s the 2009 reboot, Into Darkness, and Beyond – will be leaving Netflix in the US. I’ve been enjoying revisiting those films on the streamer lately, so if you’re like me and want to beam up with Kirk and Spock one last time through Netflix, you’ve got a little while to do it!

The 13 Star Trek films are often available on different streaming platforms, including Prime Video, HBO Max, and Netflix, but the licensing changes frequently. This means movies like J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, and films based on Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation, might appear on a different service or come back to Netflix in the future.

Because streaming services can remove content at any time, owning physical copies – like DVDs or Blu-rays – of your favorite Star Trek shows and films is a good idea.

Star Trek’s Biggest Tragedy On December 31, 2025

Season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy will also no longer be available on Netflix in the U.S. after December 31, 2025. This is disappointing news for fans, especially since Netflix revived the show after it was canceled by Paramount+ and removed from their platform in 2023, thanks to a dedicated fan campaign.

Netflix originally had the rights to stream Star Trek: Prodigy for a year and a half per season. All 20 episodes of the first season became available on Netflix in December 2023. The completed 20 episodes of season 2 then premiered in July 2024.

Netflix has decided not to move forward with a third season of Star Trek: Prodigy and won’t be renewing its streaming rights beyond the original deal. This means season 1 left Netflix in July 2025, and season 2 will be removed on New Year’s Eve.

Adding to the difficulties surrounding Star Trek: Prodigy, the animated series will disappear from Netflix, leaving fans with no way to stream it. Those who don’t own the show on DVD or Blu-ray will be unable to watch it, and it’s unclear if Paramount+ will eventually offer the complete series, despite being known as the home of Star Trek.
