As much as I love seeing films on the big screen, it looks like Blade Runner‘s theatrical run is over. Plus, the expanded universe outside the movies gets pretty complicated, and sadly, we won’t be getting another film directed by Ridley Scott anytime soon. But don’t worry, the franchise isn’t going anywhere! Just like Blade Runner: Black Lotus did, it seems Blade Runner will continue on through streaming, with a new series currently in the works. I’m actually really excited to see where they take it on the small screen.

From what I understand, it’s going to take place after both of the original movies, so we’ll finally get to see what life is like in that world years later – a proper jump forward in the timeline. It’s going to be fascinating to see how things have evolved since the events we already know.

Details about the story are mostly secret, leading to a lot of guessing before the 2026 streaming series airs. What we do know is that it takes place in Los Angeles and centers around a Replicant who can change identities and is on the run. This Replicant will have to team up with someone unexpected to expose a hidden conspiracy.

While the new film won’t likely pick up every loose end from Blade Runner 2049, it’s hard to imagine it completely avoiding those established story elements, given they both exist within the same universe.

The new installment will explore the complex themes the franchise is famous for, staying true to the spirit of the original book. Because it’s on a streaming platform, the creators have more freedom to experiment, and this could be the most visually and thematically similar project to Blade Runner we’ve seen yet.
