While organizations increasingly navigate volatile and ambiguous environments, conventional AI often prematurely resolves complexity, hindering proactive adaptation. This paper, ‘Managing Ambiguity: A Proof of Concept of Human-AI Symbiotic Sense-making based on Quantum-Inspired Cognitive Mechanism of Rogue Variable Detection’, introduces and validates the LAIZA system-a human-AI symbiosis leveraging quantum-inspired modeling to detect ‘rogue variables’ and preserve interpretive plurality. Empirical results from a three-month case study demonstrate that maintaining this ambiguity enabled proactive preparation and decisive action, shifting from reactive crisis management to resilient foresight. The emphasis shifts from minimizing risk through control to maximizing optionality and building the capacity to navigate unforeseen challenges with agility and fortitude.

The pursuit of systems capable of navigating ambiguity feels, predictably, like building castles on shifting sand. This research, with its H3LIX/LAIZA framework and focus on ‘rogue variable detection,’ attempts to formalize preparedness in a world deliberately designed to resist prediction.
