Jason Donovan reveals details of his infamous cocaine bender at Kate Moss’ 21st birthday party where he collapsed at The Viper Room: ‘Embarrassing’

Jason Donovan recently discussed the well-known incident where he collapsed due to a drug overdose at Kate Moss’ 21st birthday party.

On the latest episode of Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, 57-year-old Donovan shared a story about being carried out of The Viper Room, a famous Los Angeles nightclub, on a stretcher.

He told Laing he started celebrating the supermodel’s birthday days before the actual event.

‘I flew in from Australia and scored some cocaine and it was pretty good quality,’ he admitted.

Honestly, that’s just the truth. I started working on it a couple of days before it happened.

At a party hosted by her boyfriend at the time, Johnny Depp, Donovan recalled being amazed by the other guests, which included Michael Hutchence and supermodels Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista.

Donovan explained that being around so many celebrities led to him eating more than usual.

He fainted on the dance floor while Michael Hutchence and Johnny Depp performed a fantastic version of Van Morrison’s song, Gloria.

He described how an Australian soap actor, after drinking heavily for two days, ended up being taken away on a stretcher as the venue shut down and the lights came on.

‘Nothing to be proud of. [It was] through the roof embarrassing.’

Although Donovan eventually quit using drugs, he confessed it didn’t fully motivate him to change his life at the time.

When Laing inquired about whether Donovan had almost died that night, Donovan responded that he didn’t recall, but immediately resumed what he was doing.

‘I had the money and the ability to do what I wanted to do.’

Paramedics took Donovan out of the nightclub on a stretcher and quickly transported him to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

He discharged himself after just three hours and returned to the party to apologise.

Elsewhere, Donovan spoke candidly about his past drug use, admitting to going on days-long benders.

Donovan described his drug use as periods of intense use lasting several days. He recalled once going without sleep for four days straight.

He also shared how his drug use had affected his health, explaining that he previously experienced seizures.

Donovan credits meeting and marrying Angela Malloch in 2008, and the subsequent birth of their daughter, Gemma (now 25), as the turning point that led him to quit drugs.

‘Going back to getting out of that is you’ve got to want to change yourself,’ he said.

I needed a reason to change my life, and I found it in two major events: the birth of my child and meeting my wife. Those were the things that finally gave me the opportunity to break away from what I was doing.

Donovan shares two more children with Malloch –Zac, 24, and Molly, 14.

In his 2007 memoir, Between The Lines: My Story Uncut, Donovan shared the advice Johnny Depp offered him on the night in question.

The party was really getting going by midnight, everyone was on the dance floor, but I could feel myself having to leave. My heart was pounding, things started to get blurry, and I just felt completely lost and disoriented, as I remember writing at the time.

‘I tried to steady myself but my legs buckled under me and I fell to the floor.’

Donovan remembered apologizing to Depp for what happened, and Depp reportedly said it was okay and not to worry.

“We’re just relieved you’re alright,” Depp reportedly told him. “Now, my advice is to go to your room, get some rest, and please, take things easier from now on,” according to Donovan.
