Tom Cruise is unrecognizable in wig as he dances with shovel in first teaser for new comedy Digger

Tom Cruise looked unrecognizable in the first teaser clip for his upcoming comedy film Digger.

The 63-year-old action movie star appeared in a short video playfully dancing with a shovel. He was dressed casually in a large T-shirt, basketball shorts, and cowboy boots.

The short video only showed his outline, but he seemed to be wearing a wig with thinner and longer hair than he normally has.

The action star was seen in a house on the water then on the dock.

He stood on the pier’s edge, looking out at the vast ocean. The sky was filled with soft, colorful clouds as the sun set.

The acclaimed actor, seen on a motorcycle in Los Angeles this week, was the sole figure featured in the first preview for the film set to release next year.

Cruise previously filmed the movie in the U.K. during the six-month production.

The tagline on the movie poster refers to Digger as ‘a comedy of catastrophic proportions.’

Tom Cruise stars as the main character, Digger Rockwell, in the movie, but details about the story are being kept secret.

Warner Bros. had previously described the character as the world’s most powerful person, on a desperate quest to prove he’s a hero before a catastrophe he caused wipes out everything.

No further details have yet been revealed about the forthcoming film.

Tom Cruise shares the screen with a talented cast including Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, and Emma D’Arcy, among other actors.

Digger was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the four-time Oscar-winning director of films like Birdman and The Revenant.

He is also co-producing the movie with Cruise.

Cruise’s casting in Digger was announced in February 2024.

The acclaimed director revealed in May 2024 how they chose the action star for the movie, which was then known as Judy.

‘It’s scary and funny and beautiful,’ Iñárritu told The Hollywood Reporter.

I realize that people might be surprised to see a comedy from me or Tom, and honestly, making this movie was a bit scary. But I don’t like doing the same thing over and over, and I think every film should have an element of risk or challenge to it.

This new movie is also Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s first film in English since his 2015 movie, The Revenant. He wrote the screenplay with Sabina Berman, and the writers of his earlier film, Birdman—Nicholas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris—in 2023.

Digger is set to receive a theatrical release and premiere in October 2, 2026.

Recently, Tom Cruise starred in the successful action movies Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Top Gun: Maverick.

Digger marks the first movie Cruise has made since partnering with Warner Bros. Discovery to create and produce films.

He hasn’t worked with the studio for over ten years, since his 2014 action-sci-fi film, Edge of Tomorrow.
