A new episode of the revived Matlock won’t air tonight, December 18th, due to CBS’s schedule. The show, starring Kathy Bates, was a major hit during the 2024-2025 TV season, gaining both critical acclaim and high ratings. Because of its success and talented cast, many viewers were eagerly awaiting its return.

The first season of Matlock ended with significant reveals regarding the central mysteries, specifically the Wellbrexa documents and who Alfie’s father is. These have been key plot points throughout the show’s second season. However, season 2 also had to address the departure of the character Billy, as actor David Del Rio was let go following allegations of harassment made by his co-star, Leah Lewis.

This fall, CBS will air extended episodes of its comedies to finish out the year. The two-part finale of Ghosts season 5 will take over the usual 9 PM ET timeslot previously held by Matlock. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 2 will air from 8-9 PM ET, followed by the supersized Ghosts finale from 9-10 PM ET. This change works well since Matlock season 2 finished its run last week. Elsbeth season 3 will still conclude its fall season at 10 PM ET.
