Martha Stewart says New York Knicks superstar broke her toe at game

Martha Stewart revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she broke her toe earlier this year while at an NBA game.

The 84-year-old celebrity attended the New York Knicks-Indiana Pacers NBA playoff game on May 21st.

The lifestyle expert, originally from Jersey City, injured her foot when she was accidentally stepped on by basketball player Jalen Brunson during a game. She jokingly named the injury the ‘Brunson Fracture’.

The well-known lifestyle expert shared that she learned a valuable life lesson from her experience with the two-time NBA All-Star.

Stewart warned against wearing open-toed shoes to events where you’ll be sitting on the floor, explaining, ‘Someone stepped on my toe on this foot!’

She mentioned to the NBC late night host that she was wearing $835 Manolo Blahnik Patopia Slingback Sandals.

“I’m only able to wear open-toed shoes right now,” Stewart explained, “so that’s what I have on.”

Stewart remembered the upsetting conversation with the athlete, explaining, ‘I instantly realized something was wrong – and then he fell onto my lap.’

Stewart said Brunson had a chilly feeling during the fast-paced athletic exhibition. 

She explained that when she touched his arm, it was surprisingly cold. She thought, given he was a basketball player, he’d be sweaty, but he felt completely cool and calm.

Stewart stated she wasn’t holding any resentment towards Brunson, who is also from New Jersey, despite the broken foot. She described him as ‘wonderful’ and ‘very kind.’

She said in the immediate aftermath of the incident, she reassured Brunson all was well.

Stewart recounted a conversation with Brunson, explaining he simply said, “It’s OK,” even though Brunson had actually broken his foot and didn’t realize it.

The Knicks, playing at home, had a tough game despite leading by as many as 14 points. They ultimately lost 138-135 in overtime, making things even more difficult for Stewart.

The TV personality explained that things became increasingly difficult during the game because she was unable to address her injured toe, and the competition was effectively paused while she remained unable to move.

After the injury, Stewart informed the Brunson family about what occurred, knowing Rick Brunson, the player’s father, was an assistant coach with the team.

Stewart said that Jalen Brunson tried to make good with a memento for one of her loved ones.

‘All I got out of it was a signed basketball for my grandchild,’ she joked.
