Alan Cumming is announced as the new host of the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026 as he takes the reins from David Tennant

Alan Cumming has been announced as the new host of the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026.

Alan, age 60, will host the ceremony on February 22nd at the Royal Festival Hall in London, taking over from previous host David Tennant, known for his role in Doctor Who.

BAFTA officials were thrilled with the actor’s performance as host of the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards, praising his quick humor and lively personality.

The awards show, honoring the year’s top movies and the people who made them, will be available to watch on BBC One, iPlayer, Britbox in the US, and Britbox in Australia.

BAFTA announced the news with an Instagram post featuring Alan holding one of their famous golden mask trophies.

The actor was wearing a burgundy blazer over a black shirt, and had purple nail polish.

Oh my gosh, the 2025 BAFTAs were HUGE! I was glued to BBC One with about 3 million other people, and then I spent the next few days refreshing BAFTA’s socials because everyone was watching clips – they got over 64 million views! It was absolutely incredible, and I watched basically everything multiple times, obviously.

Alan is a highly acclaimed performer, recognized with both a Tony and an Olivier Award for his work in Cabaret.

He won a Golden Globe for his role as a supporting actor and an Emmy for his work as an executive producer, as recognized by viewers of The Good Wife.

He’s recently become widely known as the host and producer of the hit TV show, The Traitors US, earning him four Emmy Awards and two Critics’ Choice awards for his engaging personality.

Alan expressed his excitement about returning to BAFTA to host the EE BAFTA Film Awards. He described it as a special night dedicated to celebrating the talent and skill of filmmakers, and promised plenty of fun and playful moments along the way.

The EE BAFTA Film Awards feature 25 categories, and winners are chosen by the members of BAFTA.

BAFTA is the UK’s leading organization for film, games, and television professionals, representing nearly 14,000 creatives working in the screen industries both in the UK and around the world.

Round one of voting for the Film Awards opened on December 5, 2025.

The initial lists of films considered for the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards will be announced on January 9th. The official nominations will be revealed on January 27th.

The EE Rising Star Award is unique because the public gets to choose the nominees. They’ll be announced on January 14th, and the winner will be revealed at the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards on February 22nd.

Alan will be the new host, taking over from David Tennant, who had hosted for the past two years after Richard E. Grant.

David quickly became a fan favorite, earning a lot of praise for his energetic performance. He kicked off the show with a surprise song – a cover of The Proclaimers’ classic, “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” – and wowed the audience with three different outfits.

David kicked off the BBC show with a memorable performance, but not without a few hiccups. He started with a sharp joke about Donald Trump and then experienced a slight wardrobe mishap just a few minutes into the show.

David made a striking entrance on the red carpet wearing a shimmering suit. Honoring his Scottish heritage, he then appeared on stage in a kilt, and later changed into a checkered tuxedo to host the remainder of the show.
