The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and shared a sneak peek from the second part of the upcoming season. The clip hinted at how Noah Schnapp’s character, Will Byers, who developed special abilities earlier in the season, might be able to defeat Vecna. The rivalry between Will and Vecna is a central part of the show’s storyline, and a flashback in the first part of Season 5 showed how their conflict began.

The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, were on Jimmy Fallon’s show to talk about the show’s surprising popularity and the many theories fans have shared online. They also played a playful game with the host, using Funko Pop figures to hint at how Season 5 will end.

Fallon later rolled a special, never-before-seen clip from Stranger Things Season 5 Vol 2.

In the scene, Joyce Byers explains a dangerous plan to her friends – Will, Mike, Lucas, Erica, Robin, and Murray – to defeat Vecna. She wants them to get Will near Vecna’s central consciousness and reconnect him, hoping he can destroy Vecna and his forces with a single, decisive attack. Instead of focusing on the Demogorgon this time, the goal is for Will to take out Vecna directly. After laying out the plan, Joyce asks for everyone’s thoughts and suggestions.

There was a beat of quiet, then Robin, sounding a little hesitant, told Joyce she thought her plan was solid. She quickly turned to Murray, asking what he thought, and he gave a cautious thumbs-up. Then, Robin asked Will point-blank if he’d been the one to take down the Demogorgon that almost got us all at the end of the last part – you know, when it was after me, Mike, and Lucas – using his… abilities. Before Will could even answer, Mike jumped in, reminding everyone that Will actually took out three Demogorgons! It sparked this whole little discussion about Will’s powers, and honestly, it was getting a little off track, which frustrated Joyce, and she asked us to get back to the matter at hand.

The final episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 will begin streaming on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, with the very last episode airing on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025.
