In the recent episode, “We Board The Princess Andromeda,” Clarisse, played by Dior Goodjohn, has a particularly impactful scene. TopMob recently spoke with the actress about it. Dior Goodjohn Talks About Clarisse’s Big Episode 3 Speech

Clarisse is often seen as the typical bully at Camp Half-Blood, but her character is developing this season. In episode 3, we start to understand her side of the story when her father, Ares, provides her with a powerful warship and an army of the undead to aid in her quest. The episode shows Clarisse learning to lead, overcoming initial difficulties to earn the loyalty of her crew. Dior Goodjohn, who plays Clarisse, shared her experience filming this pivotal scene.

I vividly remember giving that speech. It was a week after my mom had gone back to LA for work, and I was in Vancouver, trying to be independent and manage things on my own. I spent a lot of time preparing with Andrea, really wanting to nail it. At one point, I felt overwhelmed and lost in the moment – I got hot, my stomach tightened, and I was giving the speech. When I finished, there was a beat of silence, and then everyone started clapping. That’s when I started crying, realizing they were genuinely proud of me, which was amazing. It was a really energetic and memorable day.

Okay, so I haven’t revisited the Percy Jackson books in ages, but I’m really noticing some cool layers being added to Clarisse La Rue this season. Honestly, this recent scene was her best yet – totally stood out to me. The actress who plays her even talked about filming it, saying it was super emotionally intense and just full of energy.

How Clarisse’s Arc Is Different Than Season 1

In our conversation with Dior Goodjohn, the 19-year-old hinted that Clarisse will be more important in the upcoming season. She explained it like this:

I was really looking forward to returning for the new season after a long break, mainly because I knew I’d have more time to collaborate with everyone. In the first season, I was only involved sporadically. What I was most excited about, though, was developing the character of Clarisse and really bringing her to life as a fully realized person.

It’s great to see even traditionally ‘mean’ characters, like Clarisse in the Percy Jackson series, getting more depth and development. Season 2 is already shaking things up by changing the dynamic of the main group, with Grover being captured by Polyphemus.
