The question of who the villain will be in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova seems to have been answered. Since the title of the sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was announced, fans have been speculating about the new threat to the two titans, and one creature was widely believed to be the main antagonist.
For some time, fans have predicted that SpaceGodzilla, a classic Godzilla enemy, would appear in the upcoming film Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. Recent information from the Writer’s Guild of America website—which lists the movie as being based on characters from both Godzilla and Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla—strongly suggests that this prediction will come true.
With the reference to Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, it’s now clear that SpaceGodzilla will be the villain in the next Monsterverse movie. The big questions now are how he’ll appear, how he’ll be introduced into the story, and what role he’ll play in the upcoming Godzilla and Kong team-up.
The Monsterverse May Have Already Set Up SpaceGodzilla

The choice of SpaceGodzilla as the villain in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova seems significant, as it supports existing fan theories about his role in the Monsterverse. While he was created during the events of the film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, there’s growing speculation that the Monsterverse version of this creature has actually existed for hundreds of years, perhaps in a dormant state.
As a big movie fan, I was checking out some early concept art for Godzilla vs. Kong, and it was wild! There were these huge murals showing Godzilla and Kong’s epic Titan War, but the coolest part was this flying Godzilla! Now, SpaceGodzilla doesn’t actually have wings, but he can still fly, so it was interesting to see how they were initially thinking about visualizing aerial combat.
The novelization of Godzilla vs. Kong added more to the story of the ancient Titan War. It revealed that a member of Godzilla’s species, called Zwo-Zla-Hawala by the Iwi people, actually “ate a star,” which corrupted it and turned it against the Kongs.
While Godzilla was always the prime suspect, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters suggests another way SpaceGodzilla could come to be. The show linked the energy from Hollow Earth rifts to the same forces that originally created SpaceGodzilla – the immense power found in black holes.
This raises the idea that a creature like Godzilla was changed by this energy long ago, eventually becoming SpaceGodzilla. Like the Skar King, he might have been hiding deep within the Hollow Earth. Alternatively, SpaceGodzilla could have gone into space, which would explain his name and allow him to thrive there.
SpaceGodzilla Makes Perfect Sense Of Another Godzilla-Kong Team-Up

The movie Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla showed just how powerful a villain can be, which helps explain why Godzilla and Kong are teaming up again in the Monsterverse. Even though Godzilla is known as the King of the Monsters, SpaceGodzilla proved to be a formidable opponent, forcing Godzilla to team up with a robotic monster named Moguera to defeat him.
Okay, so the big reveal in this film is that those massive crystals on Godzilla’s shoulders? That’s where all his incredible power was actually coming from. It was a clever twist! Once Moguera took those crystals out, the tables turned completely. Godzilla finally had the upper hand and was able to take down SpaceGodzilla. It was a satisfying conclusion, honestly – a real power shift fueled by that crystal destruction.
It’s easy to see how SpaceGodzilla could fit into the Monsterverse. If done right, he could be an incredibly powerful enemy – one that Godzilla couldn’t defeat on his own – but also have a significant, hidden vulnerability.
While Godzilla embodies brute strength, Kong is more strategic. This means he might be the one to figure out SpaceGodzilla’s weakness and allow Godzilla to deliver the final attack. This would be a change from the previous two films, where Kong was the one who ultimately defeated both the Skar King and Mechagodzilla.
SpaceGodzilla’s Inclusion Could Indicate A Bigger Role For Godzilla

With SpaceGodzilla joining the Monsterverse, it’s likely Godzilla will have a more prominent role in the next film. The previous two movies, Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong, clearly focused more on Kong, giving him more screen time and driving the plot forward. While Kong’s more human-like qualities were used to justify this focus, it wouldn’t be fair for him to be the main character for a third movie in a row.
Adam Wingard once indicated the next film would focus more on Godzilla. However, Wingard is no longer directing the movie; Grant Sutor Donnelly has taken over. It’s currently unknown if Donnelly intends to continue with Wingard’s original vision.
Since audiences tend to relate more to Kong than Godzilla, the dynamic between the two might stay the same. However, with the next villain likely being connected to Godzilla – either through shared DNA or being the same kind of creature – it seems logical that Godzilla will be the one leading the fight against them in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
