The latest installment in the Knives Out series, Wake Up Dead Man, is now streaming on Netflix after a limited run in theaters. Viewers have spotted a noticeable mistake, and director Rian Johnson has playfully highlighted it himself – thankfully, he seems to enjoy the error!
The problem isn’t with the movie, but with the subtitles. A line of dialogue from Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), who has a strong accent, was incorrectly transcribed.
The character Blanc actually says that telling the truth is like tasting something bitter, but the subtitles mistakenly show the line as ‘telling the truth is like a belly rub’.

Someone pointed out a misheard line to director Johnson, who then shared a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote that the actual line is, ‘telling the truth can be a bitter herb,’ but he loved the misheard version so much he almost didn’t want to correct Netflix.
A mistake in the subtitles confused some viewers, while others thought the odd comparison it created was ridiculously funny.

One fan expressed their confusion, simply writing “I was so confused by this lol.” Another reacted with disbelief, saying they couldn’t believe the phrase “belly rub” even came up, adding, “I’m actually crying.”
One viewer angrily urged Netflix to fix its issues, while another joked that once you hear the sound of a ‘belly rub’ in a show, you’ll be hooked and can’t look back.
One viewer quickly assumed it was just typical behavior from the person involved, while another playfully commented that they were going to show the clip to their dog, hoping it would confess to something.

One person commented, “It’s so embarrassing that Netflix owns this film.” Others asked for consistently accurate captions and sign language interpretation, with one user stating, “It’s really frustrating when captions are incorrect, and it happens a lot.”
Wake Up Dead Man is available to stream on Netflix now.
