M3GAN spin-off dropped less than a month before planned cinema release

The upcoming M3GAN spin-off, SOULM8TE, has been cancelled just weeks before it was scheduled to come out. The movie is an adult thriller about a man who purchases a sex robot following his wife’s death.

The upcoming M3GAN movie was originally scheduled for release on January 9th, but Universal has decided to delay it. According to Deadline, the studio is now looking for a new distributor, and Paramount’s horror film Primate will now take its place on that date.

Starring David Rysdahl (known from Fargo), Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise), and Claudia Doumit (The Boys), SOULM8TE tells the story of a man who gets an android—a decision that leads to dangerous results.

I was so surprised by how much everyone loved M3GAN! It came out in 2023, and honestly, I didn’t expect it to be such a big hit with both audiences and critics. It’s about a really creepy AI doll, and it totally took off!

So, they made a sequel last year, but honestly, it didn’t do so great. It totally bombed in theaters, and critics weren’t exactly blown away – it only got a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is kinda rough.

Digital Spy gave M3GAN 2.0 a two-star rating, noting that while it tried something new with its genre, it didn’t offer enough improvement over the first film.

SOULM8TE currently has no release date. M3GAN 2.0 is available to buy and rent digitally.
