Earlier this year, I discussed how several iconic rock bands were announcing their last tours, effectively ending their time performing live. Now, it appears the Rolling Stones may be doing the same. However, this doesn’t mean the band is breaking up – they’ll likely still record music and remain together.
It seems The Rolling Stones are putting their touring plans on hold for the UK and Europe next year. While they haven’t officially announced a 2026 tour, there was a lot of evidence suggesting one was in the works.
Now, those signs say that the tour is off and won’t be going ahead.
According to Variety, Keith Richards may be retiring from extensive touring. Considering his age – he turns 82 this week – it’s remarkable that The Rolling Stones, and bands like them, are still performing. Richards also has arthritis, which sometimes impacts how he plays guitar, and he’s previously discussed modifying his technique to accommodate it.
It’s not the end of the Rolling Stones
Okay, so it’s definitely not over for the band! We’re still getting a new album, which is awesome. They’re aiming for early 2026, following up on how huge Hackney Diamonds was in 2023. From what I hear, all the songs are recorded, and they’re just polishing everything up now to make sure the launch is massive. I’m really excited!
The cancellation of their UK and European tour hints that future promotional plans might look quite different. However, this doesn’t mean the band won’t perform live again – they recently played a brief three-song set in New York.
We might still see announcements or promotions occasionally, particularly when they’re advertising the new album.
This seems like a good way to handle the natural process of time moving forward. It’s common for bands to keep going long after their best work, and it’s better to stop before they can’t live up to their previous quality.
The Rolling Stones proved they still have plenty of energy with their album Hackney Diamonds and the concerts that came after. Their latest music will help them keep performing, and they plan to do a series of smaller shows in the near future.
