Kit Harington Doesn’t Want To “Go Anywhere Near” Playing Jon Snow Again

Kit Harington recently shared his honest thoughts about potentially reprising his role as Jon Snow in the world of Game of Thrones. He famously played Jon Snow throughout all eight seasons of the HBO series, which originally aired from 2011 to 2019.

Kit Harington, who voiced Gilderoy Lockhart in the new Harry Potter audiobook and played Jon Snow for ten years on Game of Thrones, was asked by Variety who he’d cast in an audiobook version of Game of Thrones. He didn’t offer any suggestions, explaining that he’s ready to move on from the role of Jon Snow. Here’s what he said:

No, god no. I don’t wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that. Thanks, I’m alright.

Kit Harington became famous for his role in Game of Thrones, which also led him to meet his wife, Rose Leslie. However, he’s also been open about how playing Jon Snow affected his mental health and led to problems with alcohol.

Kit Harington isn’t just tired of playing Jon Snow after ten years; the role also took a toll on his mental health. This explains why he’s so reluctant to revisit the character, even for something like recording an audiobook.

Even though Kit Harington recently said he wouldn’t reprise the role, a spin-off series featuring Jon Snow was actually being developed. Author George R.R. Martin revealed this project back in June 2022.

Kit Harington announced in April 2024 that the planned series had been cancelled because the team couldn’t agree on a compelling story. However, HBO’s Casey Bloys hinted in November 2024 that the project wasn’t completely off the table, saying they might revisit it in the future.

Although the planned spin-off featuring Jon Snow has been cancelled, George R.R. Martin hinted at potential future Game of Thrones sequels during the 2025 Iceland Noir Festival. He mentioned that HBO is currently working on “a sequel or two.” However, based on recent statements from Kit Harington, it doesn’t seem likely he’ll reprise his role as Jon Snow in any of them.

Currently, the focus for the series is on creating prequel shows based on George R.R. Martin’s books. Both the third season of House of the Dragon and the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are scheduled to come out in 2026.

Since finishing his role on Game of Thrones, Harington has appeared in several projects, including as Dane Whitman in the Marvel film Eternals, Sir Henry Muck in HBO’s Industry, and the villain Finn Clarke in Apple TV+’s The Family Plan 2. He’ll be back for season four of Industry and is teaming up again with his Game of Thrones co-star Sophie Turner in the upcoming horror film The Dreadful.
