The upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man will significantly expand the role of Trevor Slattery within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This new show, which has been in development for a long time, will introduce the character Simon Williams to the MCU.
Sir Ben Kingsley recently told Entertainment Weekly more about his character Trevor’s role in a future Marvel series, set to release in 2026. He explained that during the making of Shang-Chi, Marvel’s Kevin Feige and director Destin Daniel Cretton hinted at bringing Trevor back for another appearance – his fourth – in a TV show, and that the series will explore his story from Iron Man 3 further.
Kingsley explained that he didn’t initially know the project’s title, but immediately accepted the role, saying he loves playing Trevor because the character is so complex. He also confirmed that Wonder Man shows Trevor’s life both before and after his time as the Mandarin, essentially making the series a four-episode biography of the character.
Trevor Kingsley first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2013’s Iron Man 3, initially cast as the Mandarin, a well-known enemy of Tony Stark. But the movie revealed that Kingsley was actually an actor playing a role – a false Mandarin created to disguise the real villain, Aldrich Killian, played by Guy Pearce.
The Mandarin character finally appeared almost ten years after Iron Man 3 came out, debuting in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In this version, he’s Shang-Chi’s father, and is played by Tony Leung Chiu-wai.
Kingsley hinted that Trevor manages to get away from the villainous Mandarin and the world of Shang-Chi, returning to Hollywood to revive his acting career. He wants to show his mother, Dorothy – who always believed in him – that he can finally become the successful actor she always knew he could be.
Kingsley explains that his character, Simon, unexpectedly finds himself in the perfect position to get the role in the Wonder Man reboot, but this opportunity also creates problems for him, pulling him in opposing directions. The show will also explore a difficult situation for Trevor, who will be forced to choose between achieving his goals and facing a significant personal cost. Kingsley describes this as a compelling and challenging dilemma.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars in Wonder Man, a new series coming to Disney+ that will playfully poke fun at the world of Hollywood. The show is set to debut exclusively on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
