HGTV’s Home Town Spinoff Ended In Tragedy. Ben And Erin Napier Are Ready To Talk About It

Ben and Erin Napier have been popular HGTV stars for years, and it’s easy to see why. Their show, Home Town, which will return for a ninth season in 2025, is celebrated for beautifully restoring old homes and businesses while honoring their history and benefiting the local community. Recently, a tragedy occurred during filming of one of the show’s spin-offs, and the Napiers have now shared what happened.

What Tragedy Happened With A Recent Home Town Spinoff And What Do Ben And Erin Napier Say About It Now?

Ben and Erin Napier are well-known for their dedication to restoring the historic buildings of Laurel, Mississippi – their hometown. They’re always working on renovations, even for friends. So, when their friends asked for help with their downtown boutique hotel, they agreed, and the project was filmed for their new series, Home Town: Inn This Together.

Unfortunately, the week after renovations were completed, Erin revealed on Instagram that the hotel caught on fire, before they were even able to open to the public. At the time, it was unclear if the proposed show would be able to air at some point, but while speaking with USA Today about the early 2026 TV premiere of Home Town Season 10, Ben revealed that Inn This Together will also hit the schedule some time “later” in the year. Erin noted of their three friends, Mallorie and Jim Rasberry and Joshua Nowell (who’ve all been seen on the original show), who own the hotel:

It was their passion project, something they poured their hearts and souls into. Seeing all their hard work go up in flames was heartbreaking.

It’s hard to even picture something like this happening. I only recall one other instance on the original show where a renovation was completely ruined – a hurricane caused that, as I remember. Most homeowners understand the excitement of finally moving into a place, but when you’ve spent weeks or months renovating to create your ideal space, it feels even more significant. To get to the finish line and then lose everything to a fire would be incredibly upsetting for anyone involved.

Despite the challenges, the three partners are determined to still open their hotel. Erin explained further:

Despite the unexpected outcome, I’m incredibly proud of their continued determination and willingness to explore what’s next. If you want to witness true resilience and the power of pushing through challenges, this whole situation is a perfect example.

I expect they’ll film more scenes showing the aftermath of the fire and the owners’ recovery efforts. I’m sure the Napiers will be there to support them, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.
