Comedian Rob Beckett is pausing his career to focus on being a full-time dad to his two daughters.
The 39-year-old comedian has two children, ages seven and nine, with his wife, Lou Beckett, a former history teacher. Lou is also about to publish her first book.
On Radio X’s The Chris Moyles Show, Rob shared that he’s planning a career break while his wife, Lou, promotes her book, ‘Lessons From A Default Parent.’ The book focuses on the often-overlooked role of the ‘silent partner’ in raising children. Rob has always kept his daughters’ names private.
I’m so excited for Lou, Rob’s wife! She’s written a book called ‘Lessons From A Default Parent,’ and it’s coming out at the end of February. That’s why Rob’s taking a little time off from the Parenting Hell podcast he does with Josh Widdicombe – to support her, of course!
She paused her career to raise our children, while I continued working. Now, I’m taking a step back to give her a chance to pursue her own career goals and develop her potential.

Rob and Lou got married in 2015 and welcomed two children. During the pandemic lockdown, Rob started the Parenting Hell podcast with Josh, where they openly share their experiences and thoughts on family life.
They first met while working in an office. He was trying to launch a career as a comedian, while she trained to become a teacher and supported them financially.
Rob shared with The Daily Mail that they met in their early twenties. At the time, she worked as a history teacher and financially supported them both for three years while he was starting out as a comedian and wasn’t earning any income.
He hasn’t said he’ll make way for her, especially now that her book is coming out and opening doors to a new career for the mom of two.
I’m a big fan of this author! I learned from Rob that she actually wrote a book called ‘Lessons From A Default Parent.’ Apparently, she used to be a history teacher, but she’s always loved writing – she had a bunch of blogs for years. A publisher found her blogs and loved them so much they offered her a book deal, which is amazing!
He mentioned his upcoming 40th birthday, but admitted he wasn’t worried about it, saying he’s content with his life right now.

Rob shared that he’s incredibly happy with his life. He feels fortunate for how everything has turned out, expressing his love for his wife and his gratitude for his happy, healthy children. He also enjoys his work.
Oh my gosh, you guys, you HAVE to hear about this book! It’s called ‘Lessons From A Default Parent,’ and it’s seriously going to change your life if you’re, like, the one who always ends up doing everything with the kids. It’s not just some boring self-help thing, either. It’s actually really funny and so, so honest about what it’s REALLY like to be that parent – you know, the one who handles all the school stuff, doctor’s appointments, everything! It just gets it, and I’m already obsessed!
Being the ‘default parent’ – the one automatically expected to handle childcare and school-related tasks – shows up in many different ways, from deciding who stays home with the kids to managing all the school paperwork.
This book is a warm and funny guide for parents who handle all the behind-the-scenes work of family life – everything from scheduling activities and planning events to providing emotional support and managing the household.
This isn’t just a book about getting through tough times; it’s about learning to flourish despite them. Beckett combines insightful humor with practical and honest advice on managing both the emotional and practical challenges we often avoid talking about, helping you find a better balance in life.
Tune in to The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X every weekday morning from 6:30 to 10:00, and on Saturdays from 8:00 to 11:00. You can listen across the UK and on the Global Player app.
