Logitech G is discussing the trend of ‘gamecation’ – combining gaming with travel, especially during the holidays. Studies show that gaming is increasingly being intentionally included in travel plans.
Logitech G has observed a rising trend of people combining gaming with their holidays and time off. This ‘gamecation’ phenomenon shows that gamers are intentionally making time for their hobby – whether they’re at home, on vacation, or spending time with family.
New research from Logitech G shows that gaming is increasingly becoming a scheduled activity for people’s free time, rather than something they do on a whim. The study found that in the UK, over half of adult gamers (55%, or around 14.1 million people) plan to take time off work in 2025 just to play games. Similarly, in Australia, about 25% of gamers—roughly 5.3 million people—expect to take time off from work or studies for gaming in the same year.
People across different areas said big new game releases, new gaming consoles, and special in-game events were the main reasons they took time off to play games. A study in the UK also revealed that 28% of gamers spend six hours or more playing during holidays, showing that gaming is increasingly becoming a key part of how people relax.
Gaming as a Form of Seasonal Reset
With the busy holiday season approaching, Logitech G research shows that many gamers turn to video games as a way to de-stress. In fact, 65% of gamers in Australia reported that gaming helps them relax and manage stress, and they enjoy it just as much as playing for fun.
Almost a quarter of gamers in the UK (24%) are thinking about a vacation centered around gaming in 2025. Of those who are, nearly half (43%) feel that gaming on vacation is just as relaxing, or even more relaxing, than typical breaks like going to a spa or exploring a city. This indicates that gaming is becoming more and more popular as a way to unwind and take care of oneself during time off.
Shared Play and Staying Connected
The study also showed that gaming can bring families closer together during the holidays. In France, 74% of adults said video games help connect different generations, especially when families get together. Games that require teamwork or feel like sports were particularly popular – 45% of people had played racing games with their families, and this number jumped to 65% among parents with younger children.
In the UK, many parents feel it’s hard to find quality time with their families. A recent survey found that 86% would enjoy playing video games with their children as a way to connect, and 65% think gaming can actually bring families closer together than some typical holiday activities.
For many gamers who can’t be with family and friends during the holidays, playing online is helping them stay connected. A recent survey in Australia found that 33% of gamers primarily use gaming to connect with friends, and 75% say online gaming is important for maintaining relationships when they’re far apart.
Gaming Gear Goes on the Road
As gaming becomes more mobile, players are choosing portable gear like the lightweight Logitech G522 headset, along with small mice and tough mechanical keyboards that are easy to take on the go.
Gaming is becoming more mobile, and players are taking their equipment with them more often. A recent survey found that over half (51%) of UK gamers travel with a console or handheld device. Plus, Logitech G points to a huge increase – over 500% – in cloud gaming subscriptions in the last five years, which lets people play games on the go.
When booking places to stay, people in the UK most often said that having very fast WiFi (48%) and a comfortable area for gaming (45%) are important to them. Logitech G has observed that gamers also increasingly want equipment that’s portable, long-lasting, and easy to set up, so they can keep playing their favorite games even when they’re traveling.
Logitech G commissioned several surveys with over 1,000 participants aged 18–45 to gather this data. These studies were conducted by Antenna in Australia (September 2025), OpinionWay in France (May 2025), and OnePoll in the UK (December 2024 & May 2025). Population numbers are based on the latest data from Statista.
