Celebrity Traitors star Ruth Codd shares a health update from her wheelchair after revealing she underwent a second leg amputation

Ruth Codd, known for appearing on The Traitors, has shared an update with her fans about her recovery after having a second leg amputated.

The Irish actress lost one of her legs through amputation at age 23. This followed a football injury she suffered eight years earlier that never fully recovered.

Twenty-nine-year-old Codd had a second leg amputation below the knee in November. She is now recovering at her parents’ house and is using a wheelchair.

On Monday evening, the actress posted a photo on Instagram showing a defiant gesture and announced she’s getting a new prosthetic leg so she can be mobile again soon.

She posted a selfie with a playful message saying she’s taking a break from… well, causing trouble and irritating certain people, but will be back at it at 10am. She jokingly mentioned getting ‘new legs’ as if preparing for the comeback.

I have to say, I became a huge fan of Ekin-Su Codd after she was on the first season of The Celebrity Traitors UK last October. She really grabbed my attention during the show!

Jonathan Ross, Cat Burns, and Alan Carr – the show’s winner – were responsible for the death of the second contestant.

Weeks later, the actress confirmed she had undergone a second leg amputation.  

Addressing TikTok followers, she said: ‘Hi guys, so I have some good news and some bad news.

It’s funny how things come full circle – I’m back to making TikToks in my childhood home! The downside is I can’t film in the room with the pretty blue wallpaper anymore, as I recently had my second leg amputated below the knee and can’t easily get upstairs.

I don’t have access to those resources right now, which is causing some complications for everyone.

The actress from Ireland also shared that she recently got a new wheelchair and affectionately named it “Fat Tony”.

She added: ‘She has the top speed of f*** all per hour, especially if there’s a step involved.’ 

Codd shared that her nerve pain, stemming from an old football injury, had taken a toll on her mental health because her life was consumed with trying to recover.

She explained to the Irish Examiner that she felt hopeless for a long time, believing things wouldn’t improve. She admitted to being in a negative headspace and frustrated with her life.

Following several unsuccessful operations, she chose to have her right leg amputated. She explained that the past eight years had been consumed by constant hospital visits and procedures.

Deciding to have the amputation was a turning point for me. It brought a sense of relief and allowed me to move forward with my life.

Codd became popular on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic by creating funny videos and content that raised awareness about disabilities.

She was discovered by the casting directors for the Netflix series The Midnight Club through the platform, and landed the role of Anya despite having no prior acting experience.

She later played Juno Usher in the popular 2023 Netflix horror series, The Fall of the House of Usher, which received very positive reviews.

Honestly, thinking back to being at the Traitors castle… it just doesn’t feel real! I keep expecting to snap out of it, like the whole thing was just some incredibly strange dream. It was… surreal is the only word for it, and I’m still half-expecting to wake up any minute now!
