Disney+ has made a major improvement to its ‘High Republic‘ TV show, representing a high point for this part of the Star Wars story. The High Republic takes place hundreds of years before the events of the Skywalker saga and has mainly been told through books and comics, with only a few video projects adding to its history.
The third and final season of Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is now streaming on Disney+, and it’s the first to be available in 4K resolution. The previous two seasons are still available in HD.

Season 3 is the first Star Wars show on Disney+ to get a visual upgrade between seasons – something none of the other series like The Mandalorian, The Bad Batch, Andor, or Visions have done.
This decision marks a truly special moment for the series in the history of Star Wars streaming. With Season 3 being the show’s finale and the last Star Wars content planned for release in 2025, it’s a significant conclusion.
Audiences can clearly see how the first two seasons were under the “HD” format on the streamer:

Season 3 now features upgraded visuals with 4K streaming and Dolby Vision, which many viewers will enjoy.

The seven-episode season premiered on December 8th, featuring a return by Master Yoda and continuing the story of Kai, Lys, and Nubs. They were joined by new droid friends and battled the troublesome Rek Minuu.
Although this season was significantly shorter than previous ones—which had 25 and 23 episodes respectively—it continued to build on the story established in the High Republic timeline, a timeline recently challenged by the series The Acolyte.
Because the show is made for young kids, aimed at ages 6 and up, that’s likely the only difference most parents or dedicated Star Wars followers will pick up on.
Fans can look forward to the second season of Ahsoka in 2026, though the first season is already available in 4K, so it won’t see any visual upgrades. Also coming to Disney+ in 2026 are new animated series: Maul – Shadow Lord and Star Wars: Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi. Both are expected to be released in 4K, continuing Disney+’s trend of offering high-quality visuals for its animated Star Wars shows. The Ninth Jedi is a direct continuation of the Star Wars: Visions series, which was previously released in enhanced 4K, making the 4K format a perfect choice for the new installment.
What’s Next for The High Republic?
The ending of Young Jedi Adventures suggests Lucasfilm is changing its approach to the High Republic stories. With the publishing project set to finish in 2025 after five years, this marks the end of their most recent attempt to tell a story across different platforms like books and shows.
While the comic The High Republic: The Finale wrapped up the main storyline, Lucasfilm has confirmed that the High Republic era isn’t over. We’ll likely see it return in smaller, separate stories – like the Young Jedi Adventures series – instead of one big, connected saga.
Lucasfilm has a history of turning popular storylines into animated shows. Creating a new animated series based on events from The Clone Wars or Rebels would be a logical way to bring those characters and conflicts back to life.
Although the High Republic era was well-received and had a lot of creative promise, the recent series The Acolyte has significantly damaged its potential for future appearances. Many fans consider The Acolyte to be one of the worst Star Wars projects ever made, which casts a shadow over the future of this period in the timeline.
Lucasfilm is planning to expand the stories within the world of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, and will also be creating new films that move the Star Wars saga forward, beyond The Rise of Skywalker. These include a film directed by Shawn Levy, called Star Wars: Starfighter, and a movie starring Daisy Ridley as Rey.
