Okay, so this is pretty big news for us Marvel fans! Disney’s new nighttime show at the parks just confirmed something a lot of us have been hoping for – it looks like Steve Rogers, Chris Evans’ Captain America, is officially back. And get this, the buzz is getting louder that he’s going to be leading the new Avengers: Doomsday movie! After years of trying to move past the original Avengers team and find replacements, it seems Marvel might be doing a complete 180. Honestly, it’s a huge shift, and I’m really excited to see where they go with this!
This change is happening, significantly, following the poor box office results of Captain America: Brave New World. The film didn’t generate much excitement for Anthony Mackie’s portrayal of Sam Wilson as the new lead in the series.
Disney Parks Put Steve Rogers Back Front And Center
Disneyland Paris recently shared a first look at its new nighttime show, Disney Cascade of Lights. The concept art highlights Captain America—specifically, Steve Rogers—with his iconic shield and classic look from the most popular era of Marvel stories.
There is no Sam Wilson Captain America in sight.

Captain America now appears with classic Avengers like Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Black Panther – heroes who were most popular and successful during the Infinity Saga. This isn’t a coincidence. Disney Parks carefully choose which characters to feature, and their inclusion clearly shows what Disney thinks will appeal to visitors.
Theme parks stick to characters that are already popular and successful. They don’t take risks on those that aren’t performing well.
Brave New World Fallout Still Looms Large
This decision is particularly noteworthy considering the recent box office disappointment of Captain America: Brave New World. Despite a large marketing push and years of the studio promoting Sam Wilson as the future of the series, the film underperformed in 2025 and didn’t connect with audiences.

Instead of starting a fresh, exciting chapter for Captain America, the movie highlighted a continuing issue for Marvel since Endgame: viewers haven’t embraced the new heroes in the same way they connected with the original ones.
That reality appears to be sinking in—quietly but decisively.
Avengers: Doomsday Rumors Add Context To The Park Pivot
Rumors are swirling that Steve Rogers, Captain America, will be a key character in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. Some believe the marketing campaign, potentially starting with a preview shown with Avatar: Fire and Ash, will focus on Rogers instead of the newer heroes.

If accurate, the inclusion of Steve Rogers elements in Disney Parks seems less about appealing to fans’ memories and more about a deliberate effort to strengthen the Disney brand.
Theme park attractions usually follow what major movie studios are doing by quite a bit of time—sometimes months or even years. Disney Parks already shifting focus back to characters from the earlier Marvel films indicates that Marvel Studios is getting ready to introduce a major storyline change, essentially admitting that their attempts to build stories after Endgame haven’t gone as planned.
Disney’s Silent Admission
What makes this situation so striking is what Disney has not said.
Despite negative reactions, there hasn’t been any official statement about changing Sam Wilson’s position as Captain America. The studio hasn’t released a statement admitting the new direction for its heroes didn’t resonate with audiences, or that their attempt to update the character didn’t succeed.

Instead, Disney is letting its parks—and soon its films—do the talking.
As a huge Marvel fan, it’s really cool to see Disney bring Steve Rogers back into the spotlight like this! It definitely feels like they’re reminding everyone – and maybe themselves – that the original, classic Marvel stories are still what people love, and they know that’s a winning formula.
A Return To What Worked
I always admired how confident Marvel seemed – they truly believed fans would happily accept new versions of their favorite characters and stories, even if those stories shifted focus. But lately, looking at how movies are performing, how their streaming shows are doing, and even what’s happening with their theme park attractions, it seems like that confidence might have been misplaced. It’s becoming clear that audiences aren’t as quick to embrace those changes as they hoped.
Bringing Steve Rogers back—at Disney Parks and maybe even as a key figure in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday—seems less about pleasing fans and more about fixing a problem.

After Endgame, Marvel’s problem wasn’t just a slowdown in popularity – it was a loss of audience confidence. To regain that trust, the studio might need to start featuring the characters fans really want to see again – something they’ve avoided for a while.
Disney might not officially say so, but you can already see the results within its theme parks.
