Zootopia 2’s Co-Director Wants Keanu Reeves To Join The Franchise (And I Love The Idea Someone Pitched)

The movie Zootopia 2 has become the biggest Hollywood hit of the year, earning more worldwide than the first Zootopia. Because of this success, Disney is likely planning a third movie, and the director reportedly has a fantastic idea that could include Keanu Reeves.

As a huge animation fan, I have to say Zootopia 2 was packed with cameos – tons of familiar voices from past Disney hits! So, naturally, I’ve been thinking about who they could get for a Zootopia 3 if they ever make one. Someone on Twitter actually asked co-director Jared Bush the same question, and his answer was amazing. He didn’t just mention Keanu Reeves as someone he’d love to cast, but he also revealed a cool idea someone pitched to him…

I absolutely love the John Wick movies. My son really wants Keanu Reeves to make a cameo as a character called ‘The Baba Llama,’ and honestly, it’s a perfect idea!

Excellent! Let’s move forward with this immediately. And personally, I don’t buy the criticism of people getting opportunities through family connections. I think George W. Bush should hire his child at Walt Disney Animation Studios – they have some really promising concepts.

Adding Keanu Reeves’ Baba Llama to a Zootopia 3 movie wouldn’t be a stretch at all. Since Zootopia already features a criminal underworld, his character could easily work for Mr. Big, the shrew who controls the crime in Tundratown. It would be a funny appearance, and I’d love to see what a llama version of John Wick would look like!

You can stream Zootopia and its TV series on Disney+. Disney+ subscriptions start at $11.99 per month with ads. For ad-free viewing, it’s $18.99 a month, or you can save 16% by paying $189.99 for a full year. See the deal here.

Most of the voice actors who made cameo appearances in Zootopia 2 had previously voiced characters in other Disney films, though there were a few exceptions. Interestingly, even Disney CEO Bob Iger contributed a voice performance as a TV weatherman – a nod to his early career before becoming a leader at Disney. While Keanu Reeves hadn’t done voice work for Disney before, he did appear in a Pixar film, which the filmmakers considered a suitable connection.

Although Disney hasn’t made any official announcements, a third Zootopia movie is very likely being considered. Given the success of the first two films – both of which earned over a billion dollars – Disney will probably want to continue the franchise. The main challenges now are developing a strong story idea and getting the production process underway.

Though Zootopia 2 hints at the possibility of a third movie, even before its current success, fans are eagerly awaiting news about a potential sequel and rumors of Keanu Reeves joining the cast. In the meantime, you can enjoy the new Zootopia film in theaters and revisit the original on Disney+.
