Police investigate apparent homicide at home of Rob Reiner after 2 are found dead

Police in Los Angeles are investigating a possible murder at the home of director Rob Reiner in Brentwood. Two people were found dead Sunday afternoon.

Police found the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman at a home on Chadbourne Avenue, according to Captain Mike Bland.

I was reading The Times, and they reported that police found no evidence of a break-in at the house. It sounds like whoever entered, if anyone, didn’t force their way in – which is a really interesting detail when you’re trying to piece together what happened.

I was really saddened to hear about what happened. The Fire Department got a call around 3:30 p.m. to a home for a medical emergency. When they arrived, they unfortunately found a man and a woman had passed away. It’s just a terrible tragedy.

The property is the home of Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.

The names of the victims have not been released, and few other details were available.

As a longtime moviegoer, I’ve always admired Rob Reiner. The man’s been a fixture in Hollywood for over fifty years! From his early days as a beloved character on “All in the Family” to directing some truly unforgettable films – I’m talking classics like “When Harry Met Sally…,” the hilarious mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap,” and the endlessly charming “The Princess Bride” – he’s consistently delivered quality entertainment. It’s a career that really deserves recognition.

Reiner also was a leading political voice in Hollywood.

He helped found the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the group that successfully challenged Proposition 8, a ban on same-sex marriage. He’s also long been dedicated to improving the lives of children, notably leading the effort to pass Proposition 10 in California, which established a comprehensive program for early childhood development.

As a huge movie buff, I always found Proposition 10 fascinating, not just for the policy itself, but for who supported it. It was a really big deal, and to get people like Steven Spielberg and Robin Williams on board was incredible. What I didn’t realize until recently was that the campaign also had a personal touch – Reiner’s own father, the legendary Carl Reiner, lent a hand too! It just shows how much this meant to him and how far he went to get it passed.

Law enforcement have swarmed Reiner’s sprawling estate in Brentwood.

This breaking news story will be updated.
